Minelab Explorer SE & Garrett Ace 250
Well to start off this SE is a lot different than my Garrett Ace 250. All the different kinds of tones that are good and the bad are so confusing. Right now I am basically trying to focus on the coins and of course silver. I have had this for about 3 weeks now and have found around 8 dollars in clad, 10 lbs of junk, and some finds in places that i thought I hunted out.

I found this quarter at the horse shoe pits at a local park dead center between two of the posts. So far this is my oldest silver ...

Then at another park I had gone over this area probably twenty times before ..... I found this Presidential token. No idea of the date but seems like a hand out from gas stations or something .....

Then, again at another park, one that I haven't spent that much time, in an area I have avoided I found this "what is it". Searching on eBay I found out who Tom Mix was, apparently more popular than Gene Autry at one time, but what is this thing ??

And that brings me to today, at my favorite park of late. I found out from a new sign that was hung up that they used to have ice cream social here every summer in 40' and 50's. That explains the spoons i have found (3) and all the pennys and marbles.
Today I started looking in an area that I didn't think had been part of the original park when I got a nice coin signal maybe a dime when I find this great looking 1941S Merc ( also my oldest silver ) .....

...... and a first place 4H ring minus the ring.

Well besides a few wheats here and there that's about it. If you have any suggestion about the Explorer SE i would love to them. Right now I am still really learning the tones and occasionally go 'All Metal' for kicks.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck !!

thanks for the reply Nana !! the size of this thing is way to small to be a belt buckle. more likely could be part of a watch or bracelet of some sort ??

Nice finds! I was actually in a little town here in Pennsylvania that was Tom Mix's birthplace; I don't remember the name offhand, but it's in central PA, north of I-80. He was a huge silent film cowboy star.

I found a presidential token of Van Buren just like that one, there was one on ebay that said its a 1933 cracker jack token,
good find,

OOP! You're right! Geeze..don't know what I was thinking. :P :D I did spend some time trying to figure out what that piece was and I did find lots of collectables for Tom Mix, but nothing that matches your item. Sorry. :-\ Might want to put it up in the 'what's it' forum?

Nana :)

The 4-H thing is a first year pin. Being a 4-H Leader and involved with 4-H back in the 70's-80's I received ones just like this. They were given out for each year of completion. 1st, 2nd, and so on. The most years of completion would be 10 years.

Great finds you have there Ivy_Walls

Maybe part of a sling for a BB gun or a holster?

I've scared up quite a few of these things too, mostly in farmhouse yards and old schoolhouses. I've never seen a First year one. All of mine either say nothing extra or they say "MICH" on them for Michigan.

Cool finds!!!

Very nice finds, Congrats!!!
If that "SE" sounds anything like the Explorer II I wish you the best of luck in figuring it out. I've used my cousin's Explorer II and it sounded like two computers talking to each other and I was left out in the cold... ;D I did find silver all three times I've used it though, they are great machines... I'm sure that once you get familiar with all the bells & whistles you'll love it...

Sorry, not a clue on the "Tom Mix" item. I have seen some of his stuff, tokens and such , posted here on Tnet before and if I remember right, his items are usually very collectable... What ever it is, it's a nice looking piece...
Continued good luck, & Happy hunting~

Nice finds. Could the Tom Mix item be part of a scarf ring? Do you like the Explorer SE?
