Saturday I set out to check on a field that I thought would be harvested by now, but no such luck. After a little scouting, I decided to return to an old reliable spot that has been pounded pretty hard and see if I could coax a few relics out or maybe get lucky and find a piece of Spanish silver. Things started out pretty slow, but after I got my mind focused to listen for the small and the deep targets, I started finding a few things. A lot of the targets were very iffy signals. By the end of the day I had two toasted coppers, half a shoe buckle frame, a tiny breeches buckle, several buttons and a cufflink, and my favorite find of the day - a bayonet scabbard clip. This one is different than the French & Indian War ones I have found in the past. It wasn't riveted to the leather like the ones from the French & Indian War. I believe this one dates to the War of 1812 as most of the buttons and coins are from that time frame. I included two French & Indian War bayonet scabbards in the picture fro reference.

This find, along with some .69 caliber musket balls, a couple War of 1812 era buttons, and some history of troops moving through the area give me reason to believe some troops stopped at this place. Hopefully some more War of 1812 buttons will surface.

Wow...... awesome finds. Would kill for an older copper these days. Few and far between. Get the late colonial stuff but "NO" coins from the sites. :icon_thumleft:

Very interesting but if they are two different periods I would guess it's the other way around. Your latest is much more interesting.

I thought the latest one is more interesting as well. The other two are definitely 1750s/60s from a documented French & Indian War site, and that style was used through the Revolution. This latest one came from a site where the occupancy appears to date from the 1790s until the 1830s or so.

Steve, you had an excellent hunt my friend. Those "iffy" signals sometimes turn out to be your best finds. Sounds like these late crops are a problem for you too. Very nice finds and go get those 1812 buttons. HH, Q.

I never got one of those, and would not have know what was if I had. Educated, check.
Quite a few buttons, and coppers, I guess it wasn't pounded out.
The small buckle, I'm guessing complete is a good find.
No doubt a few more non ferrous targets still there.

Looks pretty good for a hard hit spot. Id be going back till I didn't find anything then try a few more times.

The clip is nice, I have some of the others with the rivets, never seen the one you have before. Great addition to your collection!

Nice stuff Steve! I remember those bayonet scabbard clips. You ID'd one of those for me a few years ago. And it came from a site where I dug double digit spanish silver so maybe that's a good omen for you.

Awesome finds there...never found one of those scabbard clips before...well done on digging those deep targets..Congrats

Nice little hunt Steve. Silver awaits...

Good stuff Steve - If you didn't see my response about the back of the floral button i posted here she is with no back-mark but a design in a circle.

Coax a few relics out h-ll, it looks like you did a lot better than that Steve. Super finds.
Congrats,
MM

Looks like you harvested your own crop of period pieces--nicely done!
