Hey guys, so I went to the new location I found today, and after about ten minutes of hunting I came face to face with a large brown snake. It was close, nearly at detector length.

It was enough for me to pack up and go.
So I went to a few spots I've already covered, but I know has short grass :)

It turned out ok, I made a few nice saves, as well as a handful of modern coins.

I pulled a couple of pennies, the best being a 1922. I found a couple more silver coins, a 1942 sixpence, and a 1918 One Shilling, that I scratched :(

My best find was a silver locket, it's marked k&l 800
It's surprisingly heavy and feels very well made.
It did contain two photos, but were faded completely.

Also found this life saving pendant.

I love this locket, I would rate it as one of my best finds. And it's in perfect condition.
From what I can gather, it's German made (please correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm not sure on the age.

Thanks for looking :)

Thanks Ahab, and Old dude :)
Yeah it really made me think, I was a long way from anything, and I have a dodgy hart, so it could have been lethal.
And I could have easily stepped on him, as he didn't hear me coming, he was heading straight towards me.

I didn't realise how slow a quiet you walk while detecting until now.

I have decided to leave the old farm sites for a few months.

It's easy to get wrapped up in the hunt. I was out on a 100 acre island by myself awhile back and get stung by a yellow jacket. I'm deathly allergic to stings and put some wet mud on it and sat for a bit. I had paddled out in my canoe and knew the walk back and paddle would get my heart rate up. So I just say and waited. This is one sting to my hand. A couple more and it would have been all over. Your incident was a good reminder

Isn't the brown snake the worse venomous snake there is? Please be careful, if I ever find something valuable enough to pay for my passage I want to visit and hunt with you.
I love how that beautiful locket shined out the photo, couldn't even see the coins. That three pence is a very cool looking coin, silver no doubt, what is the 1918 made of, silver? In the photo it s not shining as much as the other two silver items, is it tarnish or made of nickel? I love seeing all the different country's finds, the different designs of coins are so interesting.

You should have had me there to watch over you and protect you from those kind of things, plus we would have been in the treasure skiff and I could have gotten you back to the hospital faster than your canoe, lol

Hi Treblehunter, I'm not sure about the most, but yes it's way up there. I have lived around them my whole life and never been too worried, they usually run before you even see them, but I must have been so quiet because he jumped as the same time as I did lol

Yeah the 1918 shilling, and the sixpence are .925 silver, it has some tarnish going on, I will clean her up more. The locket was shining like that straight out of the ground.

I hope you make a big find soon, it would be great hunting with you.

Very lucky it wasn't more, or closer to your throat Ahab. Very scary

Congrats on the locket! Haven't seen silver marked 800. Always learning something, thanks for posting.

:hello2: Wonderful array of lovely finds! :hello2: Glad you didn't get snake bite - yikes! Ahab, please buy the antidote kit for bee stings and carry it with you no matter where you're detecting! When I hiked in VA mountains, our hiking leader always carried bee antidote in her emergency kit and it saved a highly allergic guy when he was bit by a bee. Yellow jackets & hornets seem especially bad. Never been bit by hornet although had bad reaction to a mean yellow jacket stinging me repeatedly -- legs swelled up, fever, nausea, yuuch. Yellow jackets are nasty guys who should live on their own planet somewhere else. :BangHead: That said - Have Fun Guys! :icon_thumright: Andi

Hi D.D.U. =)

Lovely silver saves there, especially that locket !!
Guess you wear some snake proof gear at least, heard theres some nasty biting spiders in some parts down there also .

Great finds, kudos on the locket save. Beautiful. problem down here is black widows and have been stung by a few scorpions on hunts. Always lookimg where I stick my hands and place my feet. Lesson learned.

Are there some "antidote kits" that are not so temperature sensitive as the epi pen ? it's my understanding that these go ineffective
above 70 degrees F.
