A few finds from yesterday, Site Est. 1830's
Took my MXT to a site nearby an old military fort that was established around the 1830's. Here's the finds including that 1948 Roosevelt dime, 1st silver this year. A bent wheat cent 1945, and a few clads.
The larger shell casing has "US" marked on the back... My research is that it's from the United States Cartridge Co. Which was taken over by Winchester in 1926, so... It's at least that old. That company was founded in 1869.
A bent buckle with script "Ecco" stamped on it. The bent item at the most upper left is a piece of a brass pocket knife. I cleaned up that piece a bit since this photo and it became apparent.
Also that arched thing is part of a brass bezel of some sort... Interesting decoration of leaves and ribbon along the edge, sort of reminds me of the type of decoration you'd find on an old US penny. The straight line on the edge looks like it had a hinge there. Looks pretty old to me... A piece of an old compass, or watch maybe?
