Went detecting with a friend for a few hours this afternoon. We did all right with a few coins and relics. As I was posting this, a guy stopped by and asked if I could help him find his wedding ring he lost earlier in the morning spreading fertilizer on a grassy embankment. I figured it would be easy but, the embankment is mostly building scraps under the new grass and the detectors went crazy. Hunted for two hours and couldn?t find it. The poor guy has his church wedding on the 25th of August, they were just married at the court house a few weeks ago. I tried! Here?s my finds from today,
Top row 4 musket balls and a lead bullet with 3 rings. Second row, a large pendant celebrating the towns 700th year 1250-1950 dated 12-20 August 1950 on the reverse, it?s my second pendant like it, a small scale weight, a very small apothecary nesting weight, second one, I have found a set over a few years with about 10 different sizes of these little mini bowls, and a pewter button. Bottom row are just a few crusty swastika coins.
A painting of a 1796 battle fought near my house, Germans against the French
This is as close a picture I can get to the battle field painting as it looks today, there is a school to the right where I think the middle of the battle was fought. Hope to get permission to hunt that wheat field in front there but it might be missed opportunity as I?m going back to Ohio for a visit. Maybe next year! Just wanted to share a little research I?ve learned, check out those town museums and read the town?s history books and it could really open up some great sites. HH, Mike
