Well, I can't say I dug lots of silvers like a lot of you pirates did this weekend (lol), but I did get out for a while yesterday, with TreasureFiend, Mikewaz, and BillT. We hit a few areas, kind of jumped around a bit. I didn't find any coins of historical significance (unless the 1920 wheatie counts), but I did manage an old trade token. I couldn't find any information on its origins, but it is cool. I also found what is probably an item of no importance, but I figured I'd check with you guys in case before I tossed it into the box-o-crap. It is the round item with a hole in the center, one side says "Webster Chicago Corporation", and on the other side it says "Patent Applied For". UPDATE: Bill, you were right. It IS indeed part of some electrical audio equipment (wire recorder?) manufactured by Webster-Chicago, they were in business in the earlier part of this century. http://www.webster-chicago.com/
I also found yet another relic from Chicago's bygone days as a MAJOR livestock market (remember the bull medallion?). This was dug at our last location, it was about 8 inches deep and rang up as a quarter. I couldn't read it until I got home and cleaned it a bit. It is a small, copper oval disk, with a chicken sitting on eggs in the center, and around the edge it says, "Illinois Poultry and Egg Shippers Assn." I looked this up to no evail. Do any of you guys have any recollection of this? I figure it wasn't a major, or at least long-lived, operation, as no info came up when it was Googled.
I tried my hand at snagging a silver rosey in an area Bill has found many. In fact, he said the particular area gives up many Rosies to him, and he often visits this place for a silver fix when he cannot find any elsewhere. A couple hours here and lots of clad coins later, no silver of any kind was found. We all had a great time, Kermit got his silver at the first spot, and we all were chased away a great spot from mosquitoes. Thanks for any help with my found items in advance, I am looking forward to getting in on some more hunts with you guys in the future!
