Over the years I have buckles and suspenders and don't know what I have, I suspect most are around a hundred years and hopefully someone has seen a few of these and might share a little knowledge

My guess is that the two frame buckles with the flat tongues probably date to the mid 1700's to early 1800's.

The Farmers Brand suspender buckle was patented in 1847.

Your Shirley President suspender adjuster: In 1881, C.A. Edgarton and Sons opened a factory in Shirley, Massachusetts which produced webbing for suspenders and garters. Around 1900 it adopted the name of The President Suspender Company. In 1930 the company merged with George Frost Belt Company. By the early 1960's the President name was dropped and operated under the name of George Frost Company.

That is a very nice collection there. I will check my references on the others to see what I can find. Thanks for sharing

Those two buttons I found in either western New York(Youngstown area) or in eastern North Carolina, but didn't know they might hit that age!! Appreciate the info!!

Great looking buckle finds Jack!
Creskol has already posted some great information here. :notworthy:

All I can add is... these buckles are primarily suspender or pants related, dating from the mid to late 19thc.

Thanks for sharing,
Dave

Very nice collection. I collect those and have for years and years. I really like the Farmer's brand, it's one that I don't have.

The Farmers Brace probably has a patent date of 1871 behind the lever. You would be able to see it in mirror image on the back. You are missing the hook. There are some other styles of the Farmers Brace. Paris Styles does not have a patent date on it. Also, it is missing the lever. The presidential one may be around 1892. the one that looks like 2 ovals joined together at the middle is a C.H. GUYOT. There should be 2 of those and one that is bigger and a little different looking. If you search C.H. GUYOT you will probably see a picture of the bigger piece. Those can be pre civil war, but they were made for a long time, so could be later. Sorry, time for dinner! Hope this helps! (Wait- I see the guy posted a picture above. The brass colored one on the left is the bigger C.H. GUYOT.)

You are very knowledgeable. The FARMERS BRACE suspender buckle that he displays, however, is patented in 1871.

I know they were originally patented before 1871, some time prior to 1862. My notes say 1847 but after 11 years (the age of the original post) , I can't seem to find the source I used to verify that, so I will stick with the 1862 time frame for now.
