A "Drill" that just may save our (your) families lives.

During an average evening, when everyone feels safe, or your family is doing what they usually do, .... Go to the outside power entry box and cut the power. Its' a drill. Everyone in your family needs to know where the candles are at, and the matches to light the candles, in case of emergency. It's an emergency. You need to have at least a candle with a book of matches that everyone knows about, and can feel their way through the darkness of the house, to light the emergency light. From there, they will light other candles. Do this, as you never know when you will lose power. Your family depends on it. BUT, before this, you need to tell them how to get to the candle, and the matches. Your family depends on this test. You do to!!!! Always keep a point in your house that you can finger a book of matches, and find a candle to burn. always a central point of light. It might sound silly, but if you do this, you will find that your loving family is more able to deal with problems. Please, test, your family.

They might not like it, but when it really does happen, they'll thank you for it because everyone will be trained and it will become second nature.

I keep plenty of glow sticks handy in case of a power outage at night. They keep forever and put out much more light than you would think plus no worry about starting a fire.

isnt this what we have lighters and flashlights for? and fancy phones that have a flashlight built in or an app to get one! :headbang:

In Mexico City, the kids learn this as a part of everyday life. Heh, heh.

Out here in the country, in my Third World village, months go by without an outage. This is not intuitive!

In McAllen, we get our electricity from Magic Vally Coop, and we are never gone two weeks without all the indicator lights blinking.

I have a LED flashlight in my pants pocket at all waking hours. No problem here.

of course safety is important
but to shut off the power is not needed....overkill for me LOL

My family knows in this closet are all flashlights and candles with firestarter
also, lanterns are kep in the cabinet in this area
also, we know to run around and shut off the tvs etc that were on and lights we can remember

we have battery backup alarm clocks

we have a small generator in the garage if needed for ice storms
we have it all.....I am one prepared gal and everyone knows.

it is the city folk who can't handle a power outage and go wild LOL
