Saturday May 15th, 2010....A Day I Will Always Remember

I was recently contacted by a lady who had lost a ring in her back yard a few months ago. She wanted to know if I could find the ring for her. Told her sure, no problem. I got on the phone and called some other members of a local detecting club I belong to. Garry, Larry, and Toni (my mother). They too were willing to help search for the ring. Early this afternoon the four of us all met at the ladies house. After talking with her for a bit and trying to get some information on a general area where the ring might be we began our search. I walked over to an area by a large tree and turned on my metal detector. With in seconds I got a nice high coin/ silver sound. I didn't think too much of it to be honest, at the time I was focused on finding the ring. I bent down to dig a plug and flipped it out. Out popped a large hunk of silver which appeared to be a bottle cap at first glace. I raised my digger up to give it a good whack and knock the dirt off the piece of trash. As my digger starting coming down and I was about to whack it I saw the word "Liberty". My eyes bulged out and my heart suddenly skipped a beat, I knew immediately what it was. I was able to stop within centimeters before hacking it up. I dropped my digger and picked the large coin up as I yelled Holy S***! :laughing9: Looking down at the coin I was in complete disbelief and shock. After 13 years of metal detecting my first ever SILVER DOLLAR!!! :hello2: I ran over to show the other guys and they were just as blown away as I was. The dollar was partially covered in mud but we could see it was a 1921 S Morgan and had a Tremendous amount of detail! Truly an unbelievable find!

At this point Everyone was excited. We continued searching for the ring but also now realized this site had HUGE potential. We continued searching for several hours but no other coins were found nor was the ring. I did however find two old pocket watches just a few feet away from one another. Although they were both junk, one appears to be silver plated and will make a nice addition to my collection.

Another hour or so passed and it was now getting late in the day. We were all getting tired and about ready to call it quits when Toni, my mother walked over and held out her hand with a huge smile on her face. I almost fainted....She found ANOTHER Silver Morgan Dollar in the SAME YARD!!! :o It was a 1902 S also in Excellent Condition, which is a fairly rare coin!

We continued to hunt until it got dark however we were unable to find the ring for the lady. However 2 other silver dimes were found. One Roosevelt , and one merc, along with a few wheat pennies. We plan to go back again soon and continue to search for the ring, no telling what else will be found in the process of looking for it.
Two Silver Dollars In One Day, this is truly a day I will NEVER forget. I am glad it happened with family and friends....it doesn't get much better than that folks!

congrats on the silver dollar-its a beaut! your on a great roll!

Those two coins are tremendous. One thing I noticed on closer inspection they appear to have been struck by two seperate dies. Notice the subtle differences between the two Lady Liberties. Very nice. Monty

Glad you didn't whack the thing with your digger. That woulda been bad. ;D
Hope you guys find the ring for her.

Thanks Ringfinder, Its a great feeling to have found one. I have actually found a Half Dime, a Shield Nickel, and now a Morgan Dollar all with in the past Month. Three Incredibly difficult coins to find....needless to say I'm feeling pretty lucky!

Sweet, you guys caught up with me in just one day! I've been lucky enough to find 2 morgans, but neither had great detail.
Congrats on the first! 8)
