A different kind of treasure

I have to post this. My wife and I and my step-daughter were garage sell hunting today when we went to a church garage sale being held by "among others" the Grandmother of my step-daughter's friend. Who happened to live in a home (next door to the church) which was once a recording studio in the 1970's.

My step-daughter's friend also happened to be visiting her Grandmother.

This is where it gets good. I'm 50. Turn the clock back to the 1977 and I'm at the RKO Orpheum Theatre in Davenport, Iowa, watching a concert by one of my favorite bands...Head East. Some of you may remember "Never Been Any Reason"? Or perhaps even "Since You've Been Gone"? Alright, even if you don't....understand this was a big thing for me in the 70's.

Now, today, I just happened to know that the recording studio/house was where Head East recorded "Flat as a Pancake" back in the 70's. And I wrangled a "tour". Down in the basement...the room where the band would have played is still there....and on the wall was graffitti from back in the day. Among the many doodles were interesting little notes and Dan Fogelberg's (he recorded there as well) old Peoria phone number scrawled onto the wall!

I tried to buy the wall. It was just a piece of pressboard screwed onto the studs. Gramma isn't going for the deal, yet. But, it was still cool. Just missed watching them record one of my favorite songs...by, oh....36, 37, 38 years? All I can say is......"Save my life I'm going down for the last time, woman with a sweet lovin' better than a white line!!!!"...today did..."bring a good feelin' aint had in such a long time!"

Real Treasure:

Hey Dan, great memories. I saw Head East play at the South Dakota State Fair in I think the summer of 1980. I remember the Flat as a Pancake album...

That wall would sell on ebay LOL...

Sorry I double posted the link to the video. I was playing around looking for it while you posted it I guess. As to selling that wall on on Ebay? Not for all the tea in China. Not in a million years. Not even for a heart if I needed a transplant. No way. My best friend (who died years ago) and I enjoyed one of our best times together at that concert. But, you are right, Gramma probably doesn't know what she has regarding that wall...and someone would buy it I'm sure. But, you know what I am going to do? I got the name of the gentleman who owned the recording studio and I was told by Gramma he's still around....I'm going to look him up and tell him what that song meant to me then...and what it means to me now.

Very cool Dan, That song was pretty big during my HS years...really brings me back. Thanks for posting it and the personal story that you have with it...Good times...

Reminded me of this, but without the eye candy. :laughing9:

Well at least you were able to kick start some old memories of good times past. I guess much of what everyone here remembers seeing growing up has changed dramatically in 35 - 40 years. All you need is a little something from the past to jog your memory and the images start flowing. I say when this happens, sit back, grab a popcorn and enjoy the show :headbang:

Hope you get it, BigDan! I remember the song also, and always liked Head East.

That said................. I gotta check out this band Helix Dano has posted!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
They definitely got the eye candy!!!! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Regards, SkyPilot

Back in the late 80's I saw them play in Kansas City at a little bar called Jimmy's Jigger on State Line Ave.
After the show, I went back into the kitchen area and drank Jagers with them.

Best,
Scott
