Hey all! I actually found this stuff 2 days ago but just found my cable to hook the camera to the pc today. ::) Anyway, I started the day off meeting with James at a local gas station and we got some breakfast and headed to meet Nana and her husband Charlie at an area that has a lot of history. On the way we stopped by a old boy scout camp to see if it was still accessible and as I figured, the gate was busted in but there were no tresspassing and keep out signs every where so we moved along to our original destination. :'(
We met Nana and Charlie and hunted and talked a couple of hours and determined that the site would be a good winter place due to all the thick foilage. Nana ditched us after that :tongue3: so we headed over to a church and detected for a little while but it was to darn hot :blob8: so we sat in the shade and talked about places to hunt with shade. We drove to Trussville and hit a few places and that's where I found this stuff. It was nice to finally meet Nana and maybe next time we can have a better game plan on a cooler day  or maybe just find a spot worthy enough to have Nana hunt with us at. Just Kidding. ;D She was just as nice in person as she is on here and her husband is as well. I found my oldest coin to date(with a metal detector that is) A 1925 wheat. Also found a piece of a buckle, a couple of bullets, a convertible, and sterling silver St. Christophers medal along with all the other junk like pull tabs, clad, etc. I also came across a Geo Cache(my first) in the park near the old foundation to the prison and inside were several different items and a little notebook to sign and it said it was Alabama's first cache. James and I signed it and left a little gift for the next person.

As always, if anyone knows any information or has any input on my finds, please let me know.

Thanks and Happy Hunting Everyone,
Ed

Re: A day of hunting!

Hey Possum!
You're too kind! Sorry to have left so early in the day, but when it hits 90 degrees, I'm done. :P
Was wondering what you two ended up finding for the day. It was GREAT to finally meet you and see James again. I really enjoyed the morning! I haven't been there for YEARS and it brought back fond memories of youth. ;D But like you say, that's going to be a winter site for sure! :tongue3:

Charlie got some great pictures, but I'll only post a couple. Wouldn't want to give away your spot.

I'll work on those maps and get back with you next week. :)

Congrats on your finds, love the St. Christopher, and was a pleasure to meet you. :)

Nana

It was nice to meet you as well! Thanks for sharing the pictures and good luck on the map search!

Hey Ed,

Enjoyed huntin' with you and Nana that day. It sure was fun. Let's all get together again.
Congrats on your finds especially the bullet!!!

Bullet seems to measure .375 cal with a length of a little over .75 inch. Do you have any way to weigh the bullet? I beleive it may be a .38/55 projectile. Old Winchester design cartridge, .38 projo loaded of 55 grains of Black Powder. Sort of a little brother of the .45/70 Government round, produced after 1873.

Thanks for the comments and info. guys and gal! :D
Rev., you seem like you know your bullets. I will weigh it and let you know. Also if you don't mind taking a look at some more pics, I have 2 other bullets that I found a while ago and I never posted them because I thought they were modern projectiles but after looking at old bullets for the past couple of days, I am wondering if I need to get another opinion. :icon_scratch:

Thanks again,
Ed

Going to save your name Rev, great to see we an expert on projectiles here :)

NOT an expert by any means... I just love to shoot for a hobby; everything from a .75 cal Brown Bess Musket to a .303 Lee Enfield and a bunch in between. Also do my own reloading for pistol calibers. Most of my rifles are military caliber and surplus is still cheaper than reloading. I'll try to help identify any thing except CW projos. There are others that are much more knowledgeable on that subject here.

Hey guys, glad to see you had such a great time and good fellowship. Hunting with comrades is a lot more fun that hunting alone.
Great going.
