This is my first civil war anything I found an unidentified coin also. My older brother also found an 1869 Indian head penny and an 1891 Indian head among with flat buttons and various iron relics including an axe head. Not bad for a day swingin in a cornfield.

had you any clue of anything or just a random cornfield?

My brothers in laws let him know where five different homesteads were then we found two more luckily for us we were able to get permission. And I thought my metal detecting fever was bad. It gets worse with every first find

Great button! Congrats!!

Thank u all and this being my first post I can't wait to post past and future finds and see all of yours. Thank you all one more time

Congrats on the eagle button! Can you read the back mark?

I'm afraid to clean too much on it the eyelet is a little loose any suggestions on how to clean without damaging the eyelet

I don't think that I would try and clean it any more than you have already. Nice looking eagle, I'm sure you'll find more!
