I remember so, so, long ago a fella came to maybe it was my 3rd grade class room and gave a demonstration on all the cool trick you'd be doing with a Duncan YoYo. Well I got one like every other kid on the block. I only maybe learn a couple of tricks and gave up the idea of being a pro yoyoist. I wonder if that guy was sponsored by the Duncan YoYo Company so long ago ??... Ya, know I never had that thought til now :icon_scratch: Well I saw this tonight on my always careful and thorough inspection of a local thrift store. I see this YoYo in the case stating it has ball bearings and made by Tom Kuhn YoYo Co. Well naturally I pull up sold on ebay and see this thing is a good $80. to $90. YoYo. Heck ya! I'll give the 8 bucks for it and sell it for more. When out hunting expect the unexpected. One will never know what treasures lay ahead.

Good find, tho I wouldn't have even bothered looking it up (& I don't know a whole lot about yoyo's) but I sure would know that one was worth well more than $8. I would have felt very confident I would triple or quadruple my money easily & hoped it was worth the 10X what I paid just as it looks to be.

Cool find! Did you see the episode of "Extreme Collectors" about the guy with the yo-yo collection?

Sure gadget I did believe it was most certainly worth more the $7.99 + tax they were asking, but I just needed to see how much more it was over that price. If I found they go for maybe a profit of $20.00 I may have passed. I inspect all the older Zippo's I come by and once in a pawn shop I see a 1979 error mark Zippo for $45.00 I knew the mark and didn't think of even looking it up, but did get the guy down to $35.00 on it. Well I did look it up when I got home and it would only make maybe $10.00 to $20.00 bucks if I got lucky. The dang thing had cooled down a bunch in the must have Zippo collector market and I made a whole 3 dollars on the dang thing. When I got it I thought for sure it was a $80.00 Zippo. If I gave the guy his $45.00 I'd a lost on the deal.

I didn't see that show Diggs, but can fully understand why one would focus on yoyo's to collect. There were so many different varieties. Guess it be like lunch boxes, Pez, Zippo's, Match books and so many other things you'd spend a life time on trying to find all the different examples of. I stock up on wristwatches as I do like them, but the ones I seek are investments as they do unload very well for a profit over what I gave for them.

Oh I know why you looked it up & I don't blame ya 1 bit I was just stating I was confident at that price I could triple (at minimum) my investment. I don't think I would have guessed it was worth what it turns out to be worth tho! You just don't hardly if ever see those yoyos at sales or actions around here & I go to a lot of them. It was a great buy!

To me it's all so interesting what comes up in a thrift store that you can buy and sell for more. Over time you really learn whats rare and not so rare. It's these odd and unusual things that so often show up I like to snag. Not sure what I'll get out of it as I haven't been selling much lately. Last time I did sales I had pretty poor results. I think things should pick up after schools start and we head into fall. I got a load of stuff to get rid of that I hope will bring me some cash to spend on all the fall & winter out of season discounts in the antique malls and flea market I hit when I'm on the road with work.

I know someone who worked for Duncan in the late 60's and into the 70's as a professional demonstrator. Yep. A real job.

That's awesome! Nice find!!!

I never gave a thought the YOYO was still an active toy for folks these days. I learned something new on this one. They've got some high tech YOYO's out there, plus there are some rare one to keep an eye out for. This Coca Cola YOYO wasn't the highest recent sale, but being made in 1983 I could easily believe there'd be a few sittin around someplace. Vintage 1983 Coca Cola Coke Wave Jack Russell Merry Christmas Yo Yo Philippines | eBay I guss I won't be overlooking anymore YOYOs I come by in the future.

That's funny :laughing7: I'll bet he had the time of his life with that job. I guess I should have stuck it out with that YoYo I had.
