A CW bullet in an 1890's metro park?
It seemed that the MD Gods were allowing me just one more weekend of blissful detecting, so I took the opportunity and set off to a churchyard. The building was constructed in 1840 and the yard has been unchanged since then. Unfortunately after only 20 mins of hunting someone decided to tell me I couldn't be there, even though I had permission from the city. Since I didn't have anything there with me in writing and no desire to argue on such a fine day I jetted off for my local city park. Constructed in the late 1800's, it was first a cemetery that was emptied when a larger sacred ground was designated. The grounds have never been developed besides horticultural. Pathways were put in and the city enjoyed nature in the middle of industrial life. Today it is still a major park, though its glory days have come and gone.
I set out and within a few minutes had scored a 1914 wheetie. By this time the sun had started to wain and I needed to head home, but I knew a nice place to pick it back up in the morning.
The next day I headed out to the park and picked up the trail where I left off. Nothing really jumped out though. I started to have my doubts as to whether today was going to be as good as yesterday or not. I did find some clad and a lot of "ghost" beeps made for a frustrating afternoon. While walking to a new spot I got a strong hit like a wheetie would give. I figured it wouldn't hurt to check at only 4". I popped out my plug and saw nothing in the whole. Swung my MD and got the same strong beep right in the center of the hole. What could it be? I reached down and pulled out what I could only tell was a lump of clay when it stuck me that this clay had lines in it. I rubbed off the dirt and saw that I was holding a bullet. Here in central Albany, and it looked old! A couple feet away I almost lost my kniff when I discovered and old storm grate that must have been under 5" of dirt. Covered over for who knows how long. I got a couple shots down inside it, but nothing there (was hoping for a cache).
Also found a really neat marble. Its yellow and hand blown. Sorry its not so clear, but its the gold looking thing with the key.
Let me know what you think. I don't know if it is old or not, but it sure looks like its CW. Its lead and its heavy, any ideas what gauge?
Thanks for reading all this
