A couple of unusual buckles

Hit an old house today from the late 1800's, found these 2 buckles, wach are about 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches high the first is silver (real?) with a brass fixture and has 2 birds in each corner, the next one is brass and has a snake coiled around it with a green stone in one eye (costume??)Also found a matchbox car and a 1893 Indian cent. Another bonus day for this time of year...:):)

Holy crow...those are awesome! That snake looks like a modern interpretation of a Saxon piece...sweet!
 

veryb nice buckles, the silver one should have a makers mark and hall marks . should be able to date it that way ;)

Hardy..thanks for that, I do know about hallmarks etc...none on this piece that I can see anywhere, which makes me question if it is in fact silver...I suspect not.....Hallmarks and sterling or 925 are one of my favorites things to see on the back of silvery metal... ;D ;D

PBK..thanks for that....great site. Oh, am also glad to see you are able to stay aboard...you would have been missed... ;D ;D This is just a hobby(did I really just say that??? :):) ) and life does have its way of demanding more of our time, but am glad you were able to swing both...:)
