My father passed away in 2000 and left me some of the things he had. This is just 2 of them.

The chess set I am not sure of the make of how old it was. I know when my father showed it to me when i was very young and he was alive he had told me that it was made in Germany either during his childhood or sometime after. I don't remember anything except the fact is was made in Germany. There are no makers mark on the box or the chess pieces. I can't remember what he told be the chess pieces were made of but it looks either some sort of plastic or maybe bone, but it looks to smooth to be made of bone.

The bank, "New Model Clearvue Bank" from what I researched was incorporated in 1828. Of course there is no money in it! :crybaby2: There is also no key for it. It has the original box, other than the chrome finish it should polish up really nice and is in good condition. The emblem on the side of it has "The Dime Savings Bank". The paper label that was on top has been gone for sometime. I looked at some on the internet and saw what the keys look like. Being I had done locksmithing before I know I can make a key for it. I wonder was this bank used for like a piggy bank for someone at home or what would the purpose be other than putting money in it?

If anyone has any info on the chess set and maybe the value of that as well as the bank I would appreciate any information.

I think the bank is from @ 30's. It was an advertising piece. You filled it up brought it back to the bank and they would open it for you. They would also try to talk you into opening a savings account with your dough :laughing9: . I'm thinking it's value is $25-$35 retail. A dealer would give you @ $10. I say keep it , It's a nice piece :icon_thumleft:

I do plan on keeping everything my father left me. There is quite a few more but mostly are guns. ie, 1942 German Luger, 1911 colt made around 1911-1913 according to the serial number and some old colt and browning smokeless handguns from midsize to very compact, and of course rifles as well.

The Luger and Colt 1911 will be buried with me, so those 2 are not going anywhere. The other colts and brownings, I may sell. Here are some pictures of them.

Also he gave me a pair of WW2 German Binoculars with case years before he passed away. Everything my dad has or had, he kept it all in mint condition.

Along with his Rolex ring, and his wedding band.

You're right to keep them no amount of $ can replace things from your dad. Thank you for sharing them with us here at T-net
