I'm not sure. I thought it was natural copper.

Looks like you might be into a good spot. Is that part of an eagle breast plate?? Also what is the button lying face down?

You know I thought that too. I can see at least three what looks to be arrowheads or points. Something is definitely on this lead. We don't see much Civil War stuff here in NJ so I don't know much about it. After looking again I think you're right. See the two added photos. Definitely can see the arrows.

That is part of an eagle breast plate for sure. I can see the arrows and one of the wings. What is the button that is back up in the pics. It looks like it might be from the same time period. What type of are were you hunting an old house site or something like that?

It was a farmfield across the street from a 177? house. The button has nothing on it I can see. Fertilizer wreaks havoc on them. I see part of the wing and the outline of the eagle head too.

Cool. It's possible it was just thrown out be a union veteran or his family. It's also possible there could be a training ground for local troops or any number of possibilities. Hope you all pull some more good stuff out of there.
