I gained permission to hunt an abandoned home next door to my parents' home (where I've already found some goodies). I spent an hour on the small front lawn yesterday and gained a couple firsts:

First Buffalo Nickel -- It pays to dig the crap signals! It's in great shape too:

First "turn of the century" coin. I've been on a mission to find a 1900, and now next an 1800, just because I think it's cool. And it wound up being my favorite coin, the Indian Head:

Thanks for reading!

Grant, That's one of the nicer Buffalo Nickels that I've seen dug--nice patina--many around here come out of the ground red. That IH cent should clean up real nice after a few baths in peroxide. Use some of the bees wax I gave you afterwards. :icon_thumleft:

Very nice! I am originally from Morris County. Where are you located?

Thanks Erik. I'm pretty sure this lawn has never seen fertilizer which is a big bonus! The pic of the IH is after 2 short peroxide baths and some tooth pick work. I'll do some more this weekend and then beeswax her up.

I'm in Bergen County. Lots of oldness, but lots of pavement too :(

Yeah but there are sooo many places to work. Can't wait till I move back. Unless I am at the beach the digging around here is impossible in the summer. It is cement. The beaches are too cold to swim so there is less jewelry too.

Nice going on the coins. That buffalo is in great shape for a dug nickel.
