The day was basically a wash with rain all last night and most of the day. I was limited to 5 sales that were listed as rain or shine, including one estate sale in a not so good anymore area of town.

The best find of the day was three pieces of Fenton Silver Crest, Spanish Lace with the hand painted decoration "Violets in the Snow". I got the 8 inch vase and a pair of candlesticks for $5.

I bought this book mainly because of the topic and the photos inside when I glanced in it. It has a list price of $79.99 so for a dollar I couldn't go wrong. When I got in the car and started looking through it, I found out it was signed by both authors.
Turns out it's a locally published book as are the authors.

I also got a set of cool looking salt and pepper figural lobsters by Maruhon Ware japan, pre WW2. Bought them because I collect old salt and peppers, cost $1.

That's a nice matching set. Rougher areas I can find Fenton from time to time. To them, it looks no different than the glass they see at Goodwill. Somebody probably gave it to them as a gift and they had no idea what they were getting.

Very nice. Washed out here today too.

Those shakers remind me when I use to eat crawfish. I went out Friday morning and picked up a vintage "Emerson" fan #29646 , Ill post the pics later. Congrats, on the nice find!

Nice finds, I like the book as I collect old American currency..........Scott.

I saw a set of Glasbake crab shaped bowls today and thought of those shakers. They would have went well together.

That Fenton set is beautiful! Do you notice a change in the things that are showing up at yard sales, Diggummup? Here in Oklahoma, we are starting to see more antiques/collectibles at the garage sales again....seems as though the market for those things is dwindling and people are cleaning that stuff out of their "antique booths" because its not selling.
In my sister's antique shop the things that sell the best are decorative collectibles(Hobby Lobby type stuff), shabby chic and industrial pieces. Antiques/glassware will get passed over for industrial chic items everytime! People love old garden items(hoes, rake heads, sprinklers, etc..). She can't keep them in stock. Even things like galvanized wash tubs sell really good.
Anyways---Nice Finds!:icon_thumleft:

I haven't noticed any big changes down here yet. With the yard sales, there is just so much Chinese made junk that you have to sift through to find any decent pieces of anything, glass or otherwise, that when you do spot something it feels pretty good. There is a new "antiques mall" that opened up a few miles from me, I think i'm gonna check it out and see what they have to offer, as well as their prices.

GibH- I actually have a set of the clear ones in my kitchen cabinet.

Can you tell us more about the old garden tools and galvanized tubs? I'm trying to envision rusty old garden tools as collector items, but I'm not getting it. Are they displayed like relics?

In middle school they used to call me Charmin, cuz I was fat, (still am). Mister Whipple! "Squeezably soft." "Please don't squeeze the Charmin." The horror.

I'm not sure what they do with that kind of stuff in other parts of the country. But, around here people use them as garden decorations and plant flower beds around and in the tubs, lay the old tools against a tree, etc.

As for old sprinklers, some are actually pretty cool. I would love to pick up one of the old tractor ones that drives around the yard when the water is on. But I'm too cheap and don't water the yard, so I don't really have a reason to get one.

Also, one thing you will quickly learn is that virtually EVERYTHING has a collector's market of some level. You name it, there are people that collect it. But anymore, most of the things selling at antique shops are decorator type items.

I see them damn things all the time, they worth anything??

The ones I see are plastic I believe. I think the collectable ones are cast iron? From now on I think I will at least check to see if they are metal or plastic.

Yeah, it's possible that you are seeing the newer plastic ones. I think I've only ever seen one or two ever at auctions and yard sales combined.
