I found some rocks down by the local river that looked very similar to something Tomahawkish... I know that's not a real word but bear with me. I turned one of the said stones into an impromptu tomahawk using an old shovel handle. My research has indicated that I should use a hickory, ash or maple handle is that correct? Any Thoughts?

I always heard hickory

sweet tomorrow I'll be hickory handle hunting then. I also have recently found a really old wood splitting wedge and what appears to be a quartz arrowhead.
