King George II Copper & A Colonial Kind Of Day
Hi All,
These finds were from a short two hour hunt on Thursday afternoon, just finally got them cleaned up enough to make a post. I started out going to a new property that I have permission for, but when I arrived there was work being done on the driveway so I couldn't go there. I said time for plan B and I would hit a site on my way home from work. First good find of the afternoon was the medium size button. Then I dug the two pewter utensil handles near each other. I started working a real thick brushy area and got a decent signal which turned out to be one of the large buttons, which I believe are Tombacs but not 100% sure. About 10 minutes after the large button I get another decent signal and dug down and about 5 inches out pops a Large Copper. I could see it had detail on it, so I would wait to clean it up at home. A few feet from the Copper I dug the other large button. I was going to leave and was working my way towards where I parked and got a real iffy signal. I knew for sure iron was in the hole, but it did sound like something else could be there. Well I dug down and about 5 inches out pops this large iron nail. I rescan the hole and sure enough my hunch paid off because a couple more inches down I dig up this really nice looking cuff button. I am not sure what it is made of, but it for sure topped of my hunt. After cleaning up the Large Copper I found it to be a George II Copper. I can't quite read the date on it, but it is 28.5 mm in diameter and it weighs 8.8grams. Also found a few parts of a buckle too. Sorry for my fat finger in the one picture. Thanks for reading and looking.
