I found this object in the woods near my home - looks like a pipestem, but it's too large. Does anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a ceramic tube for electrical wiring. AKA knob and tube. Was inserted in a hole drilled in framework beams and prevented wiring contact with the wood.

Well, I had a different theory, but it went out the window when I saw PBK's last post. I'd have to agree that this one's been nailed down, now.
