DAY 1
It finally stopped snowing, the wind died down and the weather was calling for above freezing temps to the east of me so I took a chance and went back to the college. There was 2 to 3 inches of snow still on the ground, but with the temperature in the 20s and teens for the past week or so the snow acted as an insulator and kept the ground from freezing hard which worked well for me. It was 28 when I started and 35 when I finished with little or no wind so not bad that way. The snow did get a little sloppy when digging, but it wasn’t terrible.

I spent 3.5 hours doing some walking around seeing what new losses there were and hoping for a goodie. I cherry picked mostly because of the messy conditions. So all together I found 25 coins with a face value of $2.91, can slaw, aluminum bottle caps, 1 aluminum grommet, 10 tabs and a few big iron pieces close to the surface (strong bell tone signals from the iron gets dug because they mask better things sometimes).

Nothing great, but at least I got out and clad does add up.

DAY 2
The weather was supposed to be better, but there is still too much snow at home so I went east again. When I got to the park I wanted to detect there were ROAD CLOSED signs blocking the road so I had to change plans. I went to the oldest most highly detected park in the area. When I got there I discovered they had ripped out all the tot lot equipment and bull dozed the space down to the clay under the mulch. I went further into the park to a second tot lot that doesn’t get much use. There was snow covering all the ground and it was in the low 30s, cloudy and windy. I started swingin over the snow and got a signal. I brushed the snow off with my boot and discovered they had put down a solid rubber mat over the whole play area.

I went around the edges of the tot lot and along the road. I also did some swingin near the picnic tables scattered all over the place as well as some areas between tables. This park is located on the edge of a civil war camp and I have found some goodies in the past. I spent 4 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 55 coins with a face value of $2.93, 2 wheaties (1940, 1956D), a round ball, a pendant, most of a sinker, the end of a flashlight, large aluminum rivets, can slaw, aluminum bottle caps and a few tabs.

The round ball is of course impossible to date precisely. This was found at the end of the hunt when I went back to the original tot lot to see what might have been under the mulch and masked by the metal equipment. It was in clay with gravel, in the middle of a dozer scrape and partly frozen into the dirt so that’s why the coating is badly chipped. It measures .724 inches so basically about a .75 caliber. I have only seen balls that large used in the civil war. Definitely too large for the locals to hunt deer. So I’m pretty sure this one is civil war. Finally something better than clad.

NON DETECTOR FINDS
I managed to find 2 wheaties in my change from the store (1925, 1950). Another one (1927) popped up in the coinstar along with a few other US coins, a washer, a Canadian quarter and a Bahamas penny. I also found a dime in the slush and a couple of coins on the floor at the mall.

Not a great week, but at least I got out and found a few things. This weather is hanging on and I can’t wait for this snow to be gone. We have been spoiled by mild winters for the past several years. I guess I like being spoiled. Unfortunately they are calling for a deep next week so things aren’t looking good. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
