A buckle and a button... that's about it.

Hit a place for the first time today (Thanks Neil...).

Before you walk in, there's a sign saying "no dumping"... apparently no one's ever read it. Most of this small, old, wooded area was really trashed up. Shame. I did manage to find a couple of areas that were fairly clean and picked up this buckle and a button (never found one quite like this). Maybe I'll go back at some point and work behind some old stones...but I think that's it for hunting for a while. Going into the deep freeze starting tomorrow. (and I don't own a jackhammer... :) )

Hey Joe, the button looks old, there should be some coins there to.
I went out today for about an hour, looks like no one is going out for a while now.

Nice buckle and button, Joe. Good to see you're doing well.

I went out Friday and had a good day. Here's my post:

I've been using the hot peroxide on my buttons and it works great. You should post a pic after you clean it up. I'm curious to see the backmark.

Talk to you soon, mi amigo.

Cheers and HH,

Thanks... I had the 10.5" on at the time. The button and the buckle were fairly deep but nothing that an 8" coil couldn't pick up. I'll probably give it another shot after the ground thaws.

I'll have to pick some peroxide up and give that a try... what do you do? Nuke the peroxide to heat it up and then put the buttons in it?

Yeah. Put enough in a microwaveable bowl to cover the buttons completely. I put a paper plate over the bowl (to prevent splattering) and nuke it for 90 seconds or so. Drop them in and leave them until the fizzing really slows down, in an hour so. Then take em out one by one, and dip a Q-tip in the peroxide and use it to wipe off the crud and corrosion. You'll be amazed at how easily it comes off. When clean rinse it well with water and let it dry. (This same process works great on IHs, wheaties and to some degree, LCs. I also used it on that brass bell and the results were great.) Best of all it's safe.

Good luck!
