This was found in a civil war camp where I have found bullets and other goodies here also. Looks to be brass that has had some steel attached at one time you can see the rust on it. It looks to have been bent. There is some silver on the back is shinny and has held up in the ground very well. Any ideas?

Hmmm, seems the knob is on the wrong side (it appears to be on the inside of the curve) for a spur. I thought maybe a telegraph key, but it seems the knob is on the wrong side for that, too. Don't have a clue, sorry.

May be a part of a spur. The silver on it has me puzzled.
Well, there were/are such things as silver spurs. I assume some of them were silver-plated as well.

Can you post an overhead photo of it lying on its side?

I believe the part is much too small to be part of a spur, the picture appears to be blown up to a bit more than twice it's size.I may be wrong those hands may be the largest ever seen on a human.
