Thanks to the trusty ole newspaper. I was reading an article where the city was replacing the basketball courts in a century+ old park. Unfortunately when I drove to the park they had already put 8" compacted fill dirt in. I did notice a 2' barrier dug around the perimeter with no fill dirt, solid black original soil.
I dug this 1869 half dime first one ever in 20 years of enjoying the hobby. It made my day, well worth the 6 hour hunt, which took place at other locations, this one was the last stop for the day.

Note: I have not soaked it in water yet.

Congrats on the half dime. That black corrosion should come off. Damp ground tends to do that to silver.

Cool story! I'm still Seated delete...but lately I've been giving myself the best chance yet, a couple new permissions. I'll get one someday. Great save Nova..Ddf

Finishing my ninth year at this treasure hunting and yet to find a Seated Half Dime myself. Big Congratulations to you for the research and score from the construction project. That's how it's DONE!:headbang:

Sweet find and good detective work and recovery! So happy for you!

Lemon juice will help clean that one. 5 minutes at a time, until happy.

Congrats on getting your first Half Dime, should clean up nicely.

Congratulations on the half dime recovery! :occasion14:

Congrats on staying aware of your area and exploiting the site. :occasion14: I hope it doesn't take me 20 years to dig my 1st seated half dime.

Grats man! Be sure to post a pic of it cleaned up, too.

Congrats!! I remember my first seated half dime find very well, had no idea what it was at first until the text on the coin came into focus :)

I've heard that seated coins are generally more challenging to find in Utah. In California and Nevada they're more common to find if you focus on the older sites, I usually average about one seated half dime per year out here. It's a tiny coin, I suspect there are a lot more out there, just masked or beyond the detection depth capabilities of our machines.

Congrats again and HH!!
Brian
