hey folks, we took a trip up north for a few nights last week to see the area, we happened to be right near the US/CANADA border, so we thought why not hit up a few banks in the area since we didn't have passports.(applied too late this year, they are still being processed). I was in search of mainly canadian pennies since they aren't making those anymore. No local bank dealt with strictly canadian rolls, just american rolls with some canadian coins mixed in, whatever the customer turns in is what i get. I managed $160 in somebody's dumps, $32 in CWR nickels, and $29 in pennies.
$29 in pennies gave me 12 wheats(oldest being 1912, 100 years old!!), and 130 canadian pennies, 4.4%!
$32 in nickels gave me a 1945-S war nickel, a nice suprise considering now i can say i found silver in a new state where i have never found silver before!!

I did get a tip from both a parking lot supervisor(who took canadian money at a 1:1 ratio to park), and a teller, to try out the duty free shop. why not!
As we got to the duty free shop, we noticed a currecny exchange counter in the corner. walked over, asked about buying some canadian bills and some coins, no problem! i asked for all the pennies he could spare us, he told me he could sell me $6 worth of pennies, so i also bought a roll of nickels since I was there. I asked then about the new Loonies and Toonies, he then proceded to sell me a loonie($1 coin), and a 2012 toonie($2 coin). I also asked for a crisp $5, $10, and $20 bill for my collection, so here's how I did!

i made a new thread because the other one seemed a bit sloppy since i was typing as i opened the rolls, hopefully this one is a little bit better!
sorry i cannot scan the canadian currency, scanner won't do it, maybe because of counterfeiting?

these canadian penny rolls were interesting to say the least, i never thought i would be getting solid AU/BU rolls of copper pennies from the 50s and 60s, but i never even thought of EVER getting an indian head penny(let alone 4!) inside of canadian penny roll either, heck, i did not even think of finding a wheat or even a copper memorial. My only conclusion is that somebody paid for a bottle of booze with their collection and went back across the canadian border, very interesting!

You are probably having trouble scanning the currency because of the nifty security strips in our banknotes. You say you found 130 Canadian cents in your $29 of American rolls? That sounds to be about the same number of American cents I find in a Canadian box.
Once again good find.

Sweet pics there Buff, Maverick.

thank you, our american bills(except the $1 and $2) have a security strips you can only see when you hold the bill up to the light, my scanner won't let me scan modern american currency either, i believe any bill before 1990 does not have a security strip inside, but all newer bills do. the new $5 bill has a strange watermark security strip.
I like the canadian $5 bill the best, hockey :)

Did you get any 2012 cents? Those are lower mintage. You should have asked for some quarters, you could have got some colorized coins.

no 2012 pennies, newest penny was 2010, and i don't have the money to tie up in canadian quarters, those add up fast!

Man, good lord, so many IH and KG V, VI in one small batch. Those rolls were indeed desperately waiting for a CRHer to come. And that CRHer was you!
Congrats, that is a one of a kind score. Here I only got some 1970 and later in AU condition and rarely pre 1960. Good stuff. Do you like the new 2$ coin design?

i like the new design of the $2 coin, how about yourself? I am still amazed; i've found 2 IHP's in america over 4 years, and then 4 in one roll that was supposed to be canadian coinage ;)

i did not see the new loonie design... since the coins were in the cash register, i could not hold the coins, but asked for the newest loonie and the guy gave me a 1867-1992 dollar... 20 years old.
I like the new design also, along with the new loonie design.
