It not got much age to it but it trying to look like a 18th century livery button.

I agree with the Livery Button. Most definetly British in my opinion. Here are some other examples of a common Livery Button featuring a Griffon/Dragon/Other Creature. I believe you will find the Griffon comes in many variaties and poses. Winged and unwinged, etc. You will also find it misspelled as Griffin, misrepresented as a Lion or as a Dragon. It is a little of both. There is a dog breed called the Griffon also that looks the part. British Overseas Airways is represented by the first button below. Common traits of Livery Buttons are the Creature and typically a base for the figure to sit upon although that is not always the case. We could probably do better on the age and determine if it is indeed a button if you can show us the reverse side.
