From the land of the Bluenose.....up at the crack of dawn and met up with Navy Davy at the "Button Hole." He had arrived about a half hour earlier and was digging up a storm having found 6 buttons already. We had decided the previous evening to get an early start as we are still in the midst of the heat wave.
After another going over I left and tried the other side of the lowered lake as ND stayed put. Picked up some more golf eggs and a puck along with a few coins. Shortly thereafter out popped this button from the 81 Loyal Lincoln Regiment. Googled the button when home and fits the description of the 1812 issue cuff button. Not 100% sure and could use help on identifing it.

Was later joined by ND who luckily had the foresight to bring a jug of water. Navy Davy then put his finds on the picnic table. Man was he having a great button day!

Put my finds on the table and told him I was done.

Showed ND the area where I had found the 81st and headed home not wanting too push my knee any further.
Later in the day ND called and stated that after cleaning his buttons the best of the lot was the Royal Enginers. Know we will be a sad pair of diggers once this lake is refilled! Having gone through a bottle of Polysporin Itch relief and have that much of a bottle of Calamin Lotion I'm a thinking that a swish may not be in the cards today even in this heat!

very interesting.. I will try and dig into this button more for you.. Did you know this:

The Battle of Maida on 4 July 1806 saw a British expeditionary force fight a First French Empire division outside the town of Maida in Calabria, Italy during the Napoleonic Wars. John Stuart led 5,200 British troops to victory over about 6,000 French soldiers under Jean Reynier, inflicting crippling losses while incurring relatively few casualties. Maida is located in the toe of Italy, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) west of Catanzaro.

The Battle of Corunna (or A Corunha, La Corunna, La Coruña, Elviña, or La Corogne) took place on 16 January 1809, when a French corps under Marshal of the Empire Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult attacked a British army under Lieutenant-General Sir John Moore. The battle took place amidst the Peninsular War, which was a part of the wider Napoleonic Wars. It was a result of a French campaign, led by Napoleon, which had defeated the Spanish armies and caused the British army to withdraw to the coast following an unsuccessful attempt by Moore to attack Soult's corps and divert the French army.

you said about cuff size? and as you know the 81st Loyal Lincolns were raised in 1793 and amalgamated into The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in 1881. I believe this button could possibly be 1812ish (war of 1812time frame) but might be more into the 1820s! will let you know if i come up with anything and if you or others do also please let us know! Thanks

The construction of the button made me think 1820s-30s as well.
