I met up with a good friend in Eastern Ontario on Thursday afternoon for 5 hrs. of detecting at three different sites. The first site had a c.1920 house, which appeared to have been abandoned at least since the 1960’s. This was a very picturesque site with the house surrounded by trees and an old barn, which had totally collapsed. I found the first 1893 I.H. under the pictured Chestnut tree; I also found the large solid brass animal syringe here. The next two sites produced the brass umbrella slide, the small brass padlock, the small cuff buttons and what I think is a very thin flat button missing its shank.

On Friday afternoon, I played hooky from work and hit a site I have detected periodically and has produced some decent finds. I’ve been feeling very confident lately with how my Deus has been preforming and can really hear the tones. The first find of interest here was the Victorian Watch Fob, followed by the 1863 ‘Fatty’ I.H. sitting right on top of the ground! :o
It was getting on towards dinnertime when I got a solid 92 — 93 on the Deus and out popped only my second sterling silver thimble in seven years! :hello2: The marks are very worn and the thimble appears as though it may have been subjected to a fire. But after a bit of gentle straightening I can see the letter ‘L’ that dates it to either 1806 or 1886, I’m thinking 1886. All of the glass, porcelain and pottery fragments came from Friday afternoon’s site along with the cow jaw and three early four-hole buttons.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Thank you Trap, best of luck to you!
Dave

That 1863 is really nice. Congrats.

Thanks John, yes she cleaned up very nicely after tumbling around in a crop field for the last 100+ years. :laughing7:

Thank you for your post and for your words of support sir!
Best of luck to you,
Dave

Nice digs! :occasion14:

Thank you!

Looks good, been some time since we have had a whole silver thimble.

It was great hooking up with you again even though the finds were slim from the trashy site. Congrats on the silver thimble buddy! The fatty copper is in great shape, liking the brown toning. Till the next time, good luck on the hunts, and I'll know better next hunt getting you on the iron site at the end of the day.:tongue3:

Thank you for your post Cru.
This site is slated for residential development starting next year, so it's likely this piece might never have been found.

Haven't spent a lot of time here this year, but I always enjoy seeing what you and your Dad find!
Dave

Congrats on some great finds.

Thank you my friend, I appreciate your post!

It's always fun when we get to detect together buddy, I always learn something new from your 45+ years of detecting experience. :occasion14:
Good finds are always a bonus, but just getting the opportunity to detect historic sites like your 1812 Button site is always a thrill for me!

Even your iron infested GW Button site was fun... the one lesson I learned there was, to bring more water for hydration! :laughing7:

Take care of that back of yours,
Dave

Congrats on the nice finds sir!

Good to see you getting out there and having fun while saving history.
