Wow Gio, you're smokin' out the buttons this year!
It's neat that there's a lot of variety in them, and always nice to dig something new and different.
You must be getting some relief in the weather where you're at , too stinking hot for detecting here most days.

There is no relief, but I drove down to the coast early this morning and I was done by 12 pm. It was comfortable until then.

One of the other buttons has a crown on it, it is a smaller button... but it is in terrible shape. I am off to attack it now.

Awesome button! I'll bet the smaller toasted button with the crown will be a Canada Militia button...I've found a couple toasted ones...

Great find Gio! Man you must have had some shade to hunt in, today was a scorcher! I hid in my basement surrounded by fans like a vampire.

That's one sweeeeeet button!

Your finds just seem to get better and better from year to year...Looks like a great button year for you....

It took me a while to learn that there is a method to the madness. Also, you can't be bashful when asking for permission. If you are, snap out of it! :icon_thumleft:

I was up bright and early, OWK. That's the only way to beat the heat. Next time I'm going to carry around an umbrella like the Korean ladies at the golf course.

Never seen one of those. Definitely a unique find!

Great looking button, your having some real nice hunts and finds lately.

Thanks guys. I put the little button into peroxide and got some detail out of it. It's a crown with a 69 under it. (69th (South Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot) I'll take a pic when I get some natural light.

Excellent button recovery. You've found some good ones this year!

As promised... the other button in terrible shape. I angled it to show the 69. I think you can see it. :laughing7:

That's a really cool button find. What was the significance of the elephant?

He was a drunk mascot!

A most conspicuous mascot was the elephant of the 78th Highlanders (later Seaforth Highlanders), acquired in Ceylon in 1838. “The Elephant” was thought appropriate as it commemorated the Battle of f Assaye in 1803. The elephant was brought home to Scotland, where it marched with the band, much to everyone’s delight. Unfortunately, his keeper, a Pvt. McIntosh, was fond of his wee drams of whisky and allowed the mascot to indulge as well. The elephant took to the habit, developed a mean disposition and had to be “transferred” to the Zoological Society of Edinburgh.

Good story - thanks for the reply.
