Hey everyone. I found this 75mm round in the Malibu hills of southern CA. around 2001. I was wondering if the 1942 on this is a date? I was watching a show on the Battle of Los Angeles (Battle of Los Angeles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and was curious if this was one of the rounds fired or junk someone discarded. Thanks! Your find has not been fired, as there are no rifling marks on the brass band. Here is a photo of a fired round to show what I'm talking about.

Bosun is correct about it being unfired, and yes, the 1942 is the manufacture date.

BosnMate and Gunsil have already correctly shown it is unfired, and dated it... so I'll give you its specific ID and manufacturer. It is a US 75mm AP (Armor-Piercing) Solid-Shot (non-explosive) artillery projectile. The small shallow hole in the center of its flat base is not a fuze-hole... it held the Tracer chemical. The letters "FA" stamped into its copperbrass band-sabot mean it was manufactured at the Frankford (Pennsylvania) Arsenal.
