I just found a 1974-D Kennedy Half that has doubling on the words "half dollar" on the reverse of the coin. I cant find any info in my coin book, and a google search turned up nothing. Does anyone have any idea how common this is? I find a lot of stuff on google for a DDO, but nothing for a DDR.

I'm new to coin roll hunting and unfamiliar with errors so any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
I can post a picture if there is any interest.

Thanks in advance,
Zym

EDIT: heres the pic

WOW!! Hope that's a rare one, and not a mechanical double. That would be way cool for you ;D

Hey Zym, I've been meaning to ask this same question myself. I would have to say that in my experience that it is actually a pretty common occurence. I especially notice this doubling on the reverses of many early 70's halves. I had started keeping them for a while, but after I had amassed many, many of them, and after checking the cherrypickers guide book to coin errors, I decided that this was a rather common phenomenon. Start checking the backs of all the 70's era halves you come across, and I think you will see what I am talking about. However, just for the sake of safety, you may want to take it by your coin dealer and get an explanation from him. (and post the explanation). Good luck! Gpurs

Hi from the photo you posted, that coin is a MECHANICAL instead of Hub Doubleing, the only way i could verify hub doubleing on this coin is too have a picture of the letters in 200X200 photos of each letter
