Relic Hunting

I was in Kingston, ON for 2 days on business and had some time available, so I hit a site I've had my eye on for a number of years now. I hunted this spot for 4hrs on Wednesday night and another 3hrs yesterday morning, made some decent finds too! The building pictured is the Kingston Prison for Women (now vacant), I was detecting across the street from this beautiful c1925 building. Just to the south of this spot is the Kingston Penitentiary (c1832), consequently this area has seen a lot of activity over the past 180 years.

My first find was the 'mystery relic', came in on the VDI in the brass range, not sure what it is though. :icon_scratch: I'll likely tumble it for a few hours this weekend to try and clean it up a bit and then post it in the 'Whatsit Forum'. My next find was the Carbine Sling Buckle. This piece has no makers mark, but I would assume it's British made and probably dates to the late 19thc. My next find registered at a solid 91 - 92 and out came the 7gm. Mens silver ring, this thing is hefty too! :o I love finding relics with writing on them so when I found the brass gas valve, I was pretty happy to make out some writing on the valve. Turns out it was made by the Haydensville Mfg. Co. in Haydensville, MA ... I've included a pic of the original factory building. The small silver plated watch is missing the guts but has the owners initials impressed in the back inside a shield.

Thanks for looking and best of luck to you all,
David

PS. I took a pic of the unusual rock wall formation buried in the ground on this site. I have no idea what it use to be, it looked like a couple of figure 8's that weren't connected in the middle. :dontknow:

Wouldn't that be cool if cannonballs actually came with a makers name on them like golf balls do!

Just showing you what kind of objects I also find in the hole with the iron.
Thanks for your post rodarian,

Looks like a really old spot you're detecting there, nice finds too! Not sure what my favorite is there but that watch item is really nice! Could the ring be white gold or did it read high conductive wise?

I really hope you didnt take any offense to my post, Dave. It was just a sorry attempt at being funny. I apologize if it came off offensive. It really was not meant to be.

My favorite is the watch, valve, and the race track!
Great finds and hunt!

Nice finds.
That ring is HUGE. I can only imagine the size of the person who wore it.

I only wish the ring had been 'White Gold', but it's stamped 'Sterling Silver' in the band ... probably dates to the 1950's or 60's. :icon_scratch:
I love finding watch cases too, especially when they've been personalized. I'm going to lightly tumble this piece to try and bring out more of the details!
Thanks for your post and best of luck to you CRM,
Dave

Thanks very much Treb! :occasion14:
Just one question bud ... what's the "race track" you like that I found? :icon_scratch:
Dave

Thanks for your post Garrett!
This ring is definitely to largest I've ever found!
Of course, I'm only a quarter mile from a maximum security prison, so maybe this was dropped by a prison guard parking his car or going for a jog. :dontknow:
Best of luck you my friend,
Dave

Here's the 'Mystery Find' after 24hrs of tumbling! :icon_thumright: :dontknow:
