7-6-07 Search. (Halves,nickels,pennies).

You found a war nickel and some Bens, my two current favorites, and I'm jealous!

That is true and good question! There I go again, letting my interest in something lead me to assume, and we all know what they say about that.... :P

Well...was it a war nickel? Either way, the 42's are great coins.

And from what I can tell from the day-in, day-out sales at my coin shop, all the early Jeffs are just just just starting to heat up. Not just key dates, either. People are requesting more pre-60 Jeffs than any other coins except State quarters. And, strangely, Barber dimes, too. Go figure.

We don't buy them for more than face, but yeah, we do sell them at more than face---mainly in BU condition, but our inventory in starting to get uncomfortably low. And the prices we sell them for are getting pretty ridiculous. Old Jeffs are simply too easy to come by, and we can buy them by the roll from any number of other dealers, but the fact that people are wanting them more tells me that perhaps maybe possibly we're starting to see pre-60 Jeffs trying for a new plateau of collectibility and appreciation. Long term looks good; short term, save save save. For all the coinflation junkies out there, just save your pre-60s en masse. In the future you're pretty much guaranteed to have either something numismatic/collectible or bulk metal worth more than face. And if worse comes to worse, you could always cash 'em in at face (assuming 5 cent coin is still around in the future).

And enamel, what are you doing searching halves? You're being unfaithfull to your pennies! haha. :)

I'm afraid it was just a regular nickel, not a war one. I usually get $1000 in halves every 2 weeks. Stopped at the bank on friday just before closing and they didn't have a box of pennies. So I got $5 worth and $20 in nickels. The 1949 Franklin is in excellent condition for it's age.

Sweet E. Anytime you pull silver especially Franklin's is a good day.
