7/30/13 - 3 coppers and Colonial Shoe buckle?

Hunting for older items is addicting! Got back to the place that yielded 3 Matron head LCs the other day. It started out slow as I was wandering around in an attempt to find any patterns to the finds. Not really, the buttons are just everywhere, which is good. Decided to focus on one end, and hit a King George III coin (maybe 1775?)! Then five minutes later, a large cent - another dateless Matron head! And then another five minutes later, a second large cent. Obverse is toast, but reverse leads me to believe it's a Draped Bust? Also got 10 more buttons - several were tombac, and one with a neat design.

An odd, unexpected piece is what I think is an old shoe buckle. Can anyone confirm? I don't think I'm even going to clean it, just leave it all caked with dirt. Gives it a lot of character.

Pics might show up out of order for some reason.

HH all!

Yep.... You are going to forget all about Silver Rosies and Mercs after you start finding this kind of stuff! (Well not really, but they won't make your grin nearly as big going forward!). :laughing9:

Nice job finding the coppers! Can you show some pictures of your buttons? They can tell a LOT about the site....

That's a great hunt. Looks like a shoe buckle to me

A nice handful of coppers...and yes I think that is a colonial buckle you have!

awesome colonial goods!, killer coins!!

Yup thats a shoe buckel, thats some old coin..Congrats on a great hunt...:occasion14:

Certainly a shoe buckle there. Might benefit from some dry toothbrushing or dry toothpicking.

Great job on the coppers!

Nice finds. I love the old stuff

Nice hunt there! Always nice to see the coppers and that is a dandy of a shoe buckle frame! Next time post the buttons too!

Thanks guys! I was hoping the video would have uploaded quickly to post that, but it's taking forever for Youtube. So, here are some pics of the buttons, and some other goodies from yesterday. Any idea what the pointy thing is? Maybe some kind of decorative piece at the end of a stick?

Treasurenet has been giving me trouble uploading images. Fortunately one was able to upload. Will try for more later. This is better than nothing.

nice old copper coins there and great shoe buckle frame.....thanks for sharing

testing123 imho my observations over many years of hunting " abandoned homes and farm sites "

you 're in an area of the site where the riders mounted and dismounted .

Horse drawn wagon traffic seems to have the most lost type of finds you recover .

More buttons than coins and always a buckle or two .

Should be a stable close by hope you like iron shoes will have a lot of iron relics to dig.

HH these places take time but always more on return trips

dawg 8-)

Coppers, a buckle, and buttons, oh my! You did really well. Good luck on return visits!
