I got out on Sunday morning for 6hrs and had three sites targeted, as their crops have all recently been harvested. I detected all of these sites this past spring with some success and just knew I had to get back. I've been patiently for the cooler weather to arrive, so Sunday morning as the sun came up I hit the first field. :laughing7:

This site still has an impression of where the home was located, but the grass is so deep here I barely get any signals. I decided to hit the periphery in the cornfield and all I can say is, “eight inch cornstalks are a pain in the butt to detect around”! I did manage to find a bent brass spoon, a toe-tap and a 1948 Coke & medicine bottle here. At the second field, I found the brass shield buckle and either a small piston ball or it may be buckshot? At the third field of the morning, I made my best find, a smokehouse padlock. Other miscellaneous finds were a couple of more modern buckles, a lipstick top, an umbrella slide, a busted pocketknife and a vintage rifle cartridge with the letter ’H’ on the bottom. I’ve had the padlock in the tumbler since Sunday afternoon, I’ll post a cleaned up pic of it tonight.

At the end of the day, my daughter asked me to take here down to Lake Ontario to collect beach glass for a school project.
Temperatures here were in the low 20’s (Celsius) yesterday, great Thanksgiving Weekend weather here in Canada! :occasion14:

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

PS. Look further down for pics of the padlock following 24hrs of tumbling.

Congrats on getting out on a beautiful day.:occasion14: I really like that lock. Are you planning on doing any electrolysis on it?

I've never heard them called 'Mickey Mouse' padlocks, but I can see what you mean! :tongue3:

I have not given tumbling a try but I have to say...that looks pretty good

Great looking Mickey Mouse padlock, I had to look up Smokehouse when you sent the text.:laughing7:

Looks like you're around the old, but the turn of the soils aren't giving up the coinage. The light blue bottle neck looks like it could of been off an ink bottle.

Thanks for your post VN.
Tumbling isn't for everyone, but I like to display my relics, so tumbling works for me!

Thanks very much for the information Jim, your experience is definitely rubbing off on me! :occasion14:
I drove past the site yesterday and noticed the farmer has done a deep plow, I'm thinking corn again next year. :icon_scratch:
Detecting the ridges and furrows is challenging, not to mention the pressure and pain it causes my knees, but I'll head back here again on Sunday morning.

Excellent hunt, I really like the Shield buckle and the padlock. It has to be tough swinging a coil in those fields.

Thanks for your post ATW.
Its not really of a problem when you're detecting in the field, because you're running on adrenaline.
The problem is later that night when the throbbing starts in the knees! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you bud,
Dave
