So I'm walking on my normal exercise route here on a1a near the beach and normally I'm
looking at the sky or the people. But since I found this site about a month ago and spending about 3 hours a day looking at posts on here new and old I have started looking down and thats what I was doing today and I spot what looks like money about 20 feet away. So I'm thinking maybe some if those bills like the churches give away so I pick it up it had a rubber band around it and I realize that its real money. So I counted it and it ends up being 673$. BOY WAS I EXCITED. I must have jumped 3 feet in the air lol. So after the excitement wore off I start thinking about this site again and I figure maybe I can find the owner. But here are my problems
1 the parking lot I was walking threw was a closed buisness

2 how do I identfy the owner of money... lol
Now the one thing I do remeber about this parking lot is that there was a lot of cop cars there a few nights ago and they were arresting a few unsavory looking caracters so maybe one of the threw it down or something.

So I would be open to any suggestions

But I figure worse comes to worse I may finally have enuff money to buy a metal detector and to make my wife stop thinking I am crazy for spending so much time on the site

Im soooo glad you found my $$$, I can describe it to prove its mine. Its several paper bills and they have various dead pesidents on them. Oh and I wrapped them up with a rubber band. :laughing7:

Awesome find bud, I say buy a detector with it!!! I have had bad luck with turning in cash to a San Fran police station, they said that if no one clams it that you get to keep it, well I checked back the whatever 3 months and they said they don't have it and someone must of claimed it (but had nothing in writing on a day or time it was retrieved). I bet it went home with the watch commander!!!

My suggestion is take the wife our for a nice dinner and then buy 10 SAEs.

Consider it a gift from the gods.

If I found a wallet with I.D. in it, I would return all the money to the owner. I did exactly that once even though I was strapped for cash at the time. But if I found bills secured with a rubber band without I.D., I would keep it unless the current week's newspapers had an ad seeking the lost money in the exact amount lost. I see no reason to turn in unidentified cash to police. Buy the detector! Andi

well a find like that is legally supposed to --go to the cops and report it --(be sure to get a reciept for it * --that way it doesn't get "lost" in the shuffle  and make very sure that they know you WILL be back to claim it after the "claiming" time frame has past .--to prevent hanky panky , by the lost and found cops.= also tell them you want to be notified if anyone claims and to tell them your name just in case a "reward" is offered --if you return after the time frame for claiming is past and you get --it was claimed -- ask by who and to see a copy of the disburstment slip ( a copy of the reciept signed by the "owner" )--just to keep em "honest".

or you can tell no one and spend it and enjoy it "tax free" -- oops too late told the whole world via the internet * now some dirt bag can go figger out who you are --go to the cops and say --he "found" my $673 in money with a rubberband wrapped around it in that parking lot --see?--its the same exact amount I lost and has a rubberband around just like mine did *** ( showing the nice police officer a print out of your post)--- now make him give it to me. -- you gave away way too much info in your posting --location found at --amount of money --how it was "packaged"--you just make it too easy for a claim jumper type to noodle you --

Buy a nice Detector :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: It sounds like Drug Change!!! If it was in 5,10,20,100"s Even dealers need to give change back!!! Lmao

no ID with the money --( not in wallet or purse) -- most folks would just "pocket it" and keep quiet about it ( thats the "smart move" in my book ) while it may not the by the book " proper legal move" * legal things are often set up by the "powers that be" to prevent you from having a "lucky day" type event like above -- the law veiws lost money if legally obtained as the losers to "claim" , only if left "unclaimed" for a time , can you then attempt to claim it --of course then its recorded that you "found" it and it goes on your income taxes for "uncle sam " to get a cut of your "luck" --

however if say its a large sum of say-- dirty "dope money" the law sees it as " all theirs" even though YOU found it -- uh I say BS to that point of veiw myself -- I can "clean up" dirty money and spend it just as well as the gubbermint can.

Wow thats tuff, it would be great to return it to the REAL owner , but as stated in the previous post there are lots of "imposters". Maybe hold onto it a while a and wait to see if you hear anything, or post it somewhere and don't be as specific where you may have lost it and see if anyone can identify the exact amount. If nothing, we'll look forward to you seeing you're metal detecting posts soon!!

You turn that money into the police, and it's GONE! I agree with the statement above. Every "CRACK"pot in the town will be trying to claim it. You should have never posted it here, mainly because of what you said happened in the lot a few days before. Either turn it in to the Police "Benevolent" Assoc., :tongue3: :laughing9: or keep it.

I wouldn't report it, but I would watch the local papers and see if some little old lady makes a lost and found notice.

Yes officer I did find a stack of cash, but it must of been fate, I have no idea what happened to it. Very very slippery cash I guess. Must of dropped it on the way home. What can I say? I'm sorry

I would try to locate the owner. It is fairly easy, and you can remain anonomous.

I would put an ad on your local craigslist stating something like the following.

Found Cash:

Found on 3/30/11. If you can name the place and the amount and describe the packaging and denominations, it will be returned to you.

Make sure you click on the "hide" feature which does not post any contact info in your ad.

Look in the papers and see if there is a Police report for what happened that day , if it was money taken from a robbery of a Store or Person then I would report it. If it is not then that would be up to you what you do with the money .

You should be able to find out what was going on that day as most departments put the logs up for view of what happened each day.

Just sit on it for about 6 months and keep your ears open. If nothing happens, you have a date with a Minelab dealer.

Handle with care! If it was dropped by the same gal who was caught internally concealing the 54 bags of heroin, 31 empty bags used to package heroin, prescription pills and $51.22, then you may want to consider "laundering" it first. :laughing7:
