Hey Guys,
I dug about 25 of these belted round balls in a 1863 conscript camp in New England. They measure 65 caliber and 64 caliber minus the belt. I first thought a Brunswick ball but the belt is much smaller. None of them have any sprue mark. Its not a mold mark as its too pronounced.
The fired one as you can see looks as if it was a oversized ball being fired in a breechloader such as a Hall rifle. Its not a case shot ball as no artillery was at this site. I would appreciate hearing what you think.
Thanks,

Is the large fired ball still round or is it flat on the bottom ( from impact ). Do you think it was the same type as the other 'Interesting' balls.?

As for the rimmed balls , I don't recall seeing anything like them , right now i'm thinking =Pre Civil war but what do I know. lol

I would love to learn with you & get more info on these.

. Welcome to T-net.

Also , put them on the 'What is it forum' 'if you have not already' -as you will get a-lot more views there.

GL & Thanks for posting.
