Dear group;
And this is why treasure hunting is best left to professionals.

It doesnt take a proffesional or a rocket scientist to know you cant operate a gas powered machine underground.Its more a case of basic commen sense or lack of in this case.
Whats tragic is the would be rescuers had no idea of the stupidity of the diggers.

You get the adrenalin going and think that all you have to do is go in and grab them then you are out of there not taking time to think it through, then you are down for the count also and you are another victim that has to be rescued. Been there and done that. Not the victim part but the rescuer part and I had the air pack on and why I am alive to tell the tale. I thought it through.

And who would you be/ The spelling police ? Among the most detested group on the web the ones who feel the need to point out typos..very clever in your mind i guess.

And who would you be/ The spelling police Police? One of the ones who can't laugh it off, and feels the need to get agressive over a joke? And not even over a reply to one of Your comments I might add!

Okay I give what makes one a "professional"?? Is there a specific university that gives a degree in this endeavor?? In athletics one goes from amateur to professional when money is accepted? I accepted $1.40 from the ground yesterday and did not put it back, I guess I am a professional?? as well as a great many on these forums.
Thanks for pointing out the dangers involved. Leave it up to the individual if they would like to accept the risks involved. Otherwise there is plenty of room out there for all of us.

Almost as bright as running a generator in your livingroom. I would think even if you didn't plan on running machinery underground you would still be intrested in making sure other mine gasses weren't present. I feel bad for the families of the deceased but come on!

Sad story. Unfortunately the same thing is common in tunnels in modern cities around the world. One of the many hazards of being a utility worker. Gas builds up and if you're not careful, you could die.

Not to the diminish the fact that 6 lives were lost but... what happened to the treasure they were digging for? Hmmmm... :dontknow:

I hearby put those two up for "darwin awards" --for operating a gas powered tool in a enclosed space thus carbon monoxide gassing themselves to death.--- those "dummy" genes will not be in the future gene pool.

the neghibors can be forgiven since they did not know the deadly gas was in there --and bravely tried to help

the "professional"rescue persons -- should have known better however and wore air tanks and mask.
