To open a magician coin:

1)put it in a freezer
2)shake it in a bottle after a night of freezing

This should work, have never tried it. I know something similar was used for the 1996 Canadian 2 dollars bimetallics. The 1996 issue had loosely attached centers.

Gordon and Tanner can say more about this, but it is used to "turn" a half dollar copper. It usually has a Mexican 20 centavos 1943-1971 type or British penny (until 1971 type). It may contain replicas of these also.

Any good dates on the Franklins? Great batch o boxes. HH

So for Franklin dates.. There are no dates that are worth more than silver content according to my book - unless the coins can be graded. My are pretty circulated/worn, so I don't think the dates are meaningful. Right?

What about 1955? Isn't that highly collectible in all grades?

Didn't find a 55. They are worth $5 more than most other Franklin's ($18) in a VF-20 state.

Opened it up and found Mexican coin. Pretty neat...

I have enough of these for my amusement...now when I hear the tell tale sound dropping in the bag...I look it over to confirm that it is a magician's coin...put it aside, and then later hurl it with some force to hit on the reverse flat side on my garage floor...opens up every time! Then see what was inside, re-assemble loosely and put it in the novelty bag.

HH,
CD

very nice boxes !!

Hope the next 6 are just as great!

20 centavos?

Nice pull on the Franklins. I love finding those, but doesn't happen often.

I think. I already put it back together. Same size as half dollar. It's not a real coin though it's attached to the other side of the half.

Franklins (or any 90% for that matter) are usually slim picking here. I don't find many.

I hit it huge in NM when I was stationed there - I find a crap load of walkers. It was insane. I think there is an old post here somewhere..
