4 hours today netted me $6.88 in clad from a local school yard. I got my first $1, and Half Dollar finds for this years total, along with 13 quarters, 18 dimes, 2 nickels, 23 pennies, and a mountain of FUN! I sure do wish our government minted $2, or $3 coins

I'm not sure where you are at or rather where your school yard you detected is at, but apparently you made a pretty good haul with your finds there. I too have detected quite a few school yards and playgrounds. They aren't always my first choice of venue if I have a chance to detect, but sometimes they are fun for short hunts when I have limited time or opportunity to get out and detect. I dare say that most of the characters you meet online here at TreasureNet have or do the same.
I have found a few things out in my short time of metal detecting, and in detecting at or around schools. Playgrounds are a gimme. Especially ones with woodchips or pea gravel playgounds. Older schools even have *gasp* GRASS playgrounds.. with well worn patches around the equipment of course. <grin> Some other places that you may or may not have discovered yet as being productive are: (copy this or maybe write it down <wink>)

*Grassy areas around the entrances and exits.. especially the front doors or around the gymnasiums or doors leading to the playgrounds.
*Around the flag poles.
*School heralds or "signs".. especially if they are brickwork or stonework with flower beds or ornamental shrubs.
*Assembly areas as in for loading and or unloading school busses or parental pick up points.
*Trees! Big trees, clusters of trees, the bigger the better.. all kids LOVE trees.
*Hills or embankments.. on or near playgrounds, assembly areas, trees, signs and especially entrances (doorways)
*Rock or Brick walls (short ones that kids can and will climb on and around) also, steps or porches

Just let your mind drift back to when you were a kid.. think like a kid.. PLAY is what is important. Adventure, Daring, Showing off or showing up some other kid or kids. Climbing, jumping, hiding... Believe me, you will find stuff in the oddest places. Well.. odd for an adult to think of perhaps, but not for a kid. <smile>

Happy Hunting my friend!

Good job at the school yard, clad is pretty abundant it seems! Glad you got out for a few hours and enjoyed yourself, keep up the good work and HH to ya!
