6 28 08 calvert floor whatsit

You wouldent belive the handfull of coins and marbels I found at the Calvert dig today, I found my first............ Continued soon, (maybe tomorrow im tired) On Todays finds.
But I did get this intresting Whatsit, I thought it was a piece of a Pocket knife when i dug it. I havent attempted opening it yet, And wont untill its Identified (maybe not then).

I havent even reasearched it . Heres what I know.

It is 1 3/8" long x about 9/16" at long oval x 7/16" across its narrow part of the oval.
It says Park and Tillford Distibuter N Y C on the (possibly) silver top. On the side it says Park and Tillford (read with the top down) and has a flower over the top of that. It also has what appears to be a Pushbutton clasp on the side by the lid, Not real Heavy so i dont suspect a treasure trove , and to small for that.

I think the "Tilford" has one "L"... They marketed purfumes during the 1930s...

I figured that much out.

Also, this site references the "Park & Tilford Grocery House...

http://home.nyc.rr.com/jkn/nysonglines/21st.htm

It was at the corner of South Broadway and East 21st Street, Broadway.

Corner (915 Broadway): Metronome; swanky jazz restaurant. Appears as "Balzac" in the TV show Sex and the City. Upstairs is the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine's clinic. On this site was the Park & Tilford grocery house.

Here's one item.

Look on ebay and there's a bunch of whiskey related items by Park and Tilford.

So Far it looks like the co was a Liquor distributer b-4 during and after prohibition, as well as a Cosmetic manufacture, and groc chain. I dont know if this thing will open as the little Button on the side is pretty stuck. Its to small for a Match case, and to well made to be a Throw away. To small to be something you'd need alot of throughout the day.

Well It was pretty delicate and was a Lipstick holder with red lipstick inside. You would push the button and the sleeve would slide off the lipstick and the lid would be held in your hand with the stick.
