Hey folks been off-the grid for awhile and when i last posted this topic in '05 i got some good and not so good advise....since then I've been able to pinpoint the house, an everytime im in town,i drive by andit calls to me..I even had a dream last winter of a still picture of them...you know the 45degree brace they put between studs under a window? well i saw them there faintly glowing under a blanket of dust a hugh triangle of gold...whoa..snap out of it resurector.. Enough silly talk..Heres the deal I know where!!! Just this next step is most critical and was hopin to get a fresh set of advise..I've been very patient an tight lipped and just cant seem to take this next step...Will i get the gold or will i just let the golden cat outta the bag.. Who lives there now is a older couple and no-good son who rent...They have been there since i started this in 2000...looks like they"ll never move...frustrated, an really nervous about approaching either renters or owner....i need a kick in the gray stuff from all you to help me out ...IDEAS?

from 2005-

I live in a town in No. Cal. and for detecting reasons I have a big collection of local history books, and while reading about turn of the century boot -leggers here in my own very small town. I read about the king-pin of boot-leggers- a man that was the equivalent of a John Goddie the mobster. He was the first person in the county to have a car and although a notorious man, gave money to the poor and the likes. His mother was widowed before he was born, and was a God fearing woman. The story goes--He would bring his mother a gold piece every week and she, stating it was the "devils money" would- quote: "drop it in a crack in the window-sill and hear it roll down like a big piggy-bank". This went on for approx. 15 yrs( 1 coin a week, 56 weeks times 15 yrs = 840 GOLD COINS). During this time the mother would ride into the big town 20 miles away with her neighbor lady to buy stuff not available in this town i.e- bolts of cloth, dairy goods etc. Now the old woman had a massive stroke which made her blind, deaf, and mute but before she died her neighbor lady visited her and the dying lady wrote on a piece of paper telling her of the gold in the wall. The author of the book states" this house and 80% of the homes that were here in 1900 still stand but have facelifts and additions and the like.... Well I've been researching this for a few years and have narrowed it down to 2 houses and I am convinced( My detecting buddies will tell you, I'm kinda physic when it comes to treasure-just a gut feeling) that its still there!!My theory is this .#1- Why didn't the neighbor lady go get the gold? In 1900 the coins were only worth face value(still a considerable sum) but she would have to tear down the walls under every window.. even if she could get in the house.#2-After the moms death the boot-legger moved some of his cronies into the home and these men were greatly feared by the neighbor lady and the locals alike.#3 So why didn't the author of the book that I was reading go find it? The book was written it 1971-long before full- discriminating detectors were. He would of had to ,buy or rent the home and then still demo under every window. There were detectors then but all the nails, wiring, plumbing pipes, would have made it almost impossible. But I know my machine will find the large cache If the coin a week was a $20 double eagles(1 ounce) do the math.. There could be 70 LBS OF GOLD all covered with dust just waiting.....
My perdictament-#1 the houses in question-1 is being rented, the other a old couple own and live there. Do I go to the renters and relate my story and make a agreement with them to some sort of a split. What if after the gold spills out on the floor the renters see that $450,000($20 gold coins average $500 apiece)really is in their home, call the cops saying Theres a deranged man in their home refusing to leave? 1/2 million bucks does strange things to people.I know I probably would...
Same with the other owners home- What if I go to them, tell my story and they say 'No Way" but thanks for the great story and by the way where do you buy them there detectors?"You can see where this is leading News paper headlines: OLD MAN FINDS $500,000 IN GOLD COINS. I'm thinking once I relate this story to either party the cats outta the bag and there goes MY gold. I know if I can get past the dealings with the people I could find it in less than 1hour in each house. Since windows aren't in the interior of the home and theres about 4 ft x 4ft under each window. This would be the easy part. I would greatly appreciate all of you folks to give me some advice on my next big step. And if your advice is responsible for the recovery. I'll mail you a Double Eagle. Cause I'll have plenty--Thanks for reading--please respond

Find the landlord or rental management company of the house and let them know that you want to lease the place should it ever come available. Contact them once a year, and get on a first name basis with that person. Then, just wait.

I would buy the property. Now, if I had no doubt that the cache was there, I would make them an offer well above the property value. Never reveal the reason you want the property of course.

YES! I agree, you must eather rent the place or buy it. Untill you can work out one or the other keep everything to yourself, bide your time. To do anything else you will likely only loose all.

At the turn of the century, 1900, the sale of alcohol was legal. Prohibition
lasted from 1920-1933. 1933 is also the year that private owenership of gold
was outlawed.

If you have a lawyer you trust go talk to him (without mentioning the house or prize) and make certain which laws come into place should you eventually get a chance to hunt the property. This is the first step as those laws will probably steer you to your next step. To go any further without knowing the laws that might eventually settle any future dispute is foolish. Any written contract you and the owner might agree to isn't worth the paper it is written on if that agreement is outside the perimeters of the governing laws that will ultimately decide any dispute. By knowing these laws ahead of time you will be able to present the land owner a written agreement that favors, "you" if a dispute arises after the fact. Also check into the possibility of past family, what their rights may or may not be. Cover all your bases now, before you act, not after the fact.

Bootleggers supply alcohol to people who cannot get it legally. When the sale of alcohol was banned in 1920 the bootlegging industry began. In 1900
bootleggers were unnecessary. Maybe you got the dates mixed up?

Obviously, the ideal situation is that you would buy the property outright as was recommended above. If you are indeed sure it is the one, this guarantees your complete privacy and legal right to the treasure. Interest rates are low and if you "negotiate" slowly and then gradually end up offering slightly more than market value the seller will not suspect anything and be quite happy to take his great deal. If purchasing the property is not an option, attempting to rent it would be the next best option. However, if the current tenants have been there for some years this may be impossible. Offering to pay a higher rent to the owner/management company would probably not work. Also, the legal issues would not be nearly as solid with you being a renter of the property vs the owner. The owner would surely have a claim should he find out about the treasure. The conundrum surrounding making a pre-treasure agreement with the owner is obvious...once you disclose anything regarding the nature of the agreement, they can simply refuse to sign and get the treasure themselves.

One other option would be to somehow make friends with or ingratiate yourself with the current tenants. As you have described the son of the older tenants in somewhat derogatory terms, this may not be a viable option either.

Tough situation indeed.

Sorry I didn't find this thread sooner. I know that it's been almost a month since anyone posted here, but, I just gotta put my 2 cents in. :laughing7: :laughing7:

Having spent a number of years specializing in home remodeling and renovations, after reading all of the posts, it was obvious to me that everyone missed what I believe might be a (at least,) partial solution to your problem. That is, locating the hiding place of that filthy lucre. (That I wish I had a chance at.) :laughing7:

Have you thought of getting permission to detect the yards of these houses?? That amount of gold would be as easy to detect through the outer walls as it would through the inner walls, perhaps even easier. i.e., no furniture, or built in shelves, etc.

Of course, I'm going on the assumption that due to the age, they are simple clap-board (wood siding) homes. If they are stucco, you might have the stucco wire lathing to contend with. But that shouldn't be much of a problem with ground balance. Anyway, if you located it this way, then it would be a matter of patience. Waiting for a chance to buy, lease or get permission. But, you would at least be sure of which one to concentrate on.

Are you sure you're not the one who is "imagining" this wall-of-gold? I think you should consider another strong probability. Perhaps there are only a few (7-8) gold coins in the wall?

I only offer this suggestion, because in my line of work I see similar examples of this nearly everyday. Changing your personality is very difficult. If you are used to hurting and cheating people as your way of life, that is what you will usually do.

After testing his mom's resolve by dropping a few gold coins in the wall, eventually it would dawn on him that his Mom would not change her answer. He would probably say to himself, that old bat will never accept my gift, so why waste it on the wall. He would still want to appear to her as a giving son, so instead he would drop a silver dollar and still appear to get the credit for dropping gold! Over a 15 year period, I'm sure he would eventually change the silver dollars to slugs or washers... all the while still getting credit for dropping gold coins!

When (and if) you get to hunt this property, I hope you find your wall-of-gold... but in reality I think it will be a wall of mostly slugs & washers.

Talk to an attorney in a very non-specific way. You need to find one that is versed in treasure trove law etc. With that info in hand approach the owner/investment co. with an offer to buy. If you feel very confident a cache is there, it would be a win - win for you. Find the cache, put a little money into the property & flip it for a profit or rent it.

Either way, you're gonna need a s ::)it load of patience. I wouldn't approach anyone about searching the yard or anything until you own it or are renting it. Some bright person might put two & two together. Patience my friend.
