Hey ya everyone,

Just got my 5th box of dimes and got skunked. I have a bit of a dilemma at the moment. Started to open the rolls and they are roll upon roll of 2012 P BU dimes. Eehh! after about 6rolls, I started to get regular rolls and then I looked at my last 10 rolls and they look like they are all 2012 P BU rolls. There are 2012 P's on both ends of the rolls. Should I open them? Or are they worth anything on Ebay? CraigsList? I actually rerolled my dimes, since tonight I had time to do so. then I can go to my nearest bank branch, deposit them and the next day I'll go to another branch of that bank and pick up another box of dimes. I love this bank. They are so nice to me. I plan on writing a letter, telling the higher ups about the wonderful service the tellers have been giving me. Won't tell them its for all the coins I am returning, they don't need to know that, but a handwritten letter goes a long way compared to a EM.

On the cool side, I went into town to the secondary LCS that I found out about 3 weeks ago. They had ASEs for just 34 dollars. not bad considering the other CS wanted 37.50 for the exact same thing. I got a 2012 ASE for just 34 dollars compared to the 40 dollars the other CS wants. So i got 2 for 69 dollars, a 2012 and a 1983, pristine condition. Not bad. And I was able to put away an extra 150 away for my medical bills to come. squirreling away my money at the moment. Have to call the doctor for my first consultation. Blech!!! at least, shock of all shocks, my pain in the rump, drives me crazy younger brother said he would come with me. Awww, I guess that's what siblings are for. You can mess with a sibling but heaven help if anyone else messes with your family. LMAO!

Open every roll, except mint rolls. The 2012 rolls don't have a premium now, but did before they entered mass circulation. I know someone on this forum who got a '64 dime in the middle of a solid 2012 roll.

Good deal on the eagles, always try to haggle with the sellers. Allot of times you can get a few bucks off when buying several pieces or try to have something extra thrown in such as as a dime or small ingot or a quarter etc. When I bought 10 oz bars back when silver was at 19$ an oz i would get a walker thrown in, pawn shops are the way to go, good luck!

Hey Sag, I've been wondering the deal on solid new rolls. I've got a box of 2012 pennies that I saw were selling on ebay for like $32 but I just held onto it. Turns out, it sounds to me like they are worth a lot to begin with and then settle back down to face value. Any chance you could give me info on the relative timing of this whole transition, and if you can find the occasional box before they enter mass circulation? interesting topic!

sorry, ASE = American silver eagles. Got a 1983 and a 2012.

Yes, ASE = American Silver Eagle. However, the first ASE was struck in 1986, hence my confusion... that's why I was asking if it might be a 1 ounce round bullion coin by a private company... or a Chinese forgery? lol

oops, sorry Rush. I misquoted the date. it's a 1986. But thanks for the info. Didn't know that. I love it when I learn something new everyday. =)

Sincerely, Garoulady

Edit: I had multiple threads open and posted a reply intended for another thread on this one.

When I get boxes of brand new rolls I like to put one back only for the reason it is a 2 touch roll of uncirculated coins, no value other than face.

ASE's one of my favorite oz coins and you got them at a really good price. eBay prices they command 5-8 dollars over spot per coin.

A very good day GL.

I have no idea why they sell for more. If I really wanted a solid 2012 box, maybe hoping it will be more valuable in 50 yrs., I would wait until now to buy it when the price is lower. My only guess is that people want the First Strike Coins - What Does the First Strike Designation Really Mean designation, which can sell for more. The only rolls that consistently sell for more are 2009 dimes, and especially 2009 nickels. Also, the 2012 Canadian cent rolls sell for a premium. I'm holding on to the dimes and nickels from 2009 (I have like 3/4 of a tube of dimes, but just one 2009-P and one 2009-D nickel)
