This the third cw piece I found in a yard while looking for the spanish american war camp.
This cartridge has a dent in the center of the base where a firing pin or hammer hit it. Maybe someone will know what type of rifle it was based on the info.

Thanks for looking.

Is there an actual primer in the base?? Need to see a picture of the base.

There is no primer. Found more today. Posting soon. Thank you.

I will try to photo the base.

Yea on those there should be a firing pin mark ( just or almost like you would see on a 22 LR case ) 'Right on the edge '.

Later Cousin. J.

Here is the base photo20200129_090425.jpg

I may have missed the firing pin mark but I don't see one.

If it's not fired it was most likely IMHO used as a fire starter .

Cool Civil War Save .

I see the center punch area, but no rimfire strike. Maybe just the pic. Found lots of those, and wish I could find a whole one with the bullet, powder, and shell intact

I know,in the other post the cartridge case looks like its longer than a Spencer :dontknow: Got me thinkin' now!!

That was the one and only choice I had left, very well could be.Need to find the brass length to make sure.

Looks like about the right size

I was thinking it 'may' be a .52 Sharps & Hankins ( bullet / cartridge } bullet # 's 124 and 125 in HOCWB&C or 50 cal Warner. ?

Like civilman1 stated , the brass length should answer your question .

Also if you can tell if the case is made a brass or Copper as the .52 S & H (# 124 in the book says it's case was made of copper).

The cartridge length is 1.75 iinches. Still finding more of them. Hoping for one with the lead in there.

Good luck Alabama11. Maybe there will be a whole one lying about.

Keep digging them , in my experience most 'Spencer ' Cartridges I have found were found with others , only on occasion do I come across one in the woods or when i least expect it .

I'm still thinking Spencer, as there was a-lot of them .

PS.
I been looking through my stuff and as soon as i find a nice complete Spencer ill get it off to you asap.

God Bless Jeff & your family.

Nice find. I found a spot years ago and dug a spot about the size of 3 pizza pans in circumference and about 8 inches down. I dug quite a few Spencer Carbine bullet casings and the lead bullets. I did not find a whole bullet, but found one bullet with a portion of the casing still on the bullet. It was as if a Cavalryman was standing in this one spot firing away with his carbine. Strange. Hit the area hard and take your time and you may just be able to come across a whole carbine bullet. Best of luck to you.

Do any of them have a firing pin mark?

Looked in the picture A11 posted but could see none on that casing , i'm sure he will check them all.
