Picked these two pieces of old English sterling in a thrift store as I was out traveling on the road for work this last week. One is this weird flower urn with four little removable urns hallmarked on every part of the entire piece, with a date mark of 1907. The other is this very old little thick and very worn little platter with a very cool old crest of a Lion engraved on the top and date mark of 1821. I just couldn't believe this find. What are the odds, I was to be the one to come in at that moment and recognize these as true and valuable antiques at a heck of a deal??. They must have thought the urn was somewhat special putting 50 bucks on it, but the wear on the platter just says I'm an old piece, please look at me a little closer ??, but they didn't. I did find the maker of the platter on the 925/100 website and forgot who that is, but I haven't researched the maker of the urn yet. It looks as if it has an art nouveau influence to it, or so it seems to me? The big urn on it had some kind of silk worm looking cocoon down inside it, as if it was out in a garage or barn for some time?. I'll be restoring this piece to a thing of beauty, as it's not all that bad and beat up.

Huge congrats on these jaw dropping finds! :o I would love to see them when you are done with the restoration. :)

Looks like a real nice Epergne or Victorian centerpiece? Some go for big money! They would hold flowers or fruit usually. Yours being Sterling should fetch a return. Nice find!

Wow!! I'm speechless! Those are fantastic finds and both are definitely keepers worth cleaning up and enjoying. Well done tamrock!!

The plate was made in London 1821 by Rebecca Emes and Edward Barnard l.

"Epergne" That's the correct description for this. I was trying to think of what this actually is and I knew that word epergne once before. Yes! late Victorian is what era it is. I believe it was indented for a floral arrangement. They made the base out of heavier silver for more stability. It does look as if there was water used down inside each vase buy the type of corrosion I see down inside. It's a bit tweaked and out of shape, but I've been able to straighten out silver items somewhat in this condition before. It'll clean up very nicely.

I did see that maker on the 925/1000 site. That'll be good to know when I go to sell this 195 year old plate later down the road.
