5" spike

Hi everyone, my buddy found this the other day at our permission that always gives up something. This spike/nail is incredible. It's 5" long and looks medieval. Definitely hand made, square, sharp and the head is amazing. Any ideas as to how old, and for what use?

So it looks like it's got a five sided head, that comes to a point.

I wish I could, he has it at his house. I'll get another pic asap. The head is square but jagged. Honestly, it looks like someone would be nailed to a cross with these things!

Okay, he sent me a pic... shows five sides, and it comes to a blunt point at the top.
