Yesterday I went out late with an old buddy of mine (he only detected once before) I wanted to hunt for a cellar hole I seen on the old maps. I found the hole after about a 20 minute walk in the woods. My second target was another first for me, digging a fully intact oil lamp. We were there about an hour. Today I went back by myself (after he backed out) I hunted for 4 hrs. My keepers were the oil lamp, flat button, wheat back 1940 penny, pocket watch lid, and a religious medallion.
Enjoy the pix, it was a pretty day for Dec. great for pix!

Nice finds. Is the pocket watch lid the thing with the crown on it, or is that a pull?

You (or your bud) look happy! That is what it is all about.

That's a cool oil lamp! Nice how it's all intact.
Is the indentation in the ground shown actually the cellar hole? I was just wondering because I've seen a few of those back in my woods, but didn't think much of them because they had no stone foundation.
Looks like you have a good spot!

Nice finds! That oil lamp is incredible. All I ever find is the wick knob or whatever it is.

By the looks of your digs, you are at a good site. I hope it produces what you want the most. Love the lamp wick assembly.

I've never dug an intact oil lamp. That's really cool! Thanks for all the pictures. Nice place to hunt.

I don't know if it holds true for your area, but up in Vermont those stoneless depressions are some of the best hunting grounds, as they typically were abandoned prior to the 1850s quarry boom in our part of the world. Good foundation stones were scarce enough before that that folks repurposed them elsewhere. These homesites tend to be relatively free of the metal trash that covers the places abandoned in the 1870-1910 period.

You can't see in the pix, there is "sand stone" in the edge of the hole

Like most spots,I found holes every where. I spent allot of time filling in holes. It is very hard finding places no one has hit.
Thanks

The stones are not visible in the pix

Good looking place Brad. Today was really weird weather wise here. In the low 30's and fog all day long. It never did burn off.

I have three more cellar holes to find, has to be something left at all of them. I usually squeak out at least one good find out of them, who knows maybe I'll find one no one else did?

That's my kind of place. The possibilities at a site like that are endless. Or you may find nothing. That's what makes it fun for me. Congrats

Nice lamp...I usually dig pieces..never got one whole..congrats...that button is cool find too.

That's a beautiful #1 size Plume & Attwood Burner Brad! :notworthy:
I don't think I've ever seen one found complete before? :icon_scratch:

I enjoy the beauty of the site, That's why it hurts to see a fellow detectorous leaving behind all those holes. One can't help but think there was some great finds in some and the other that they will ruin being able to hunt in this place. I covered up all the holes.

Nice variety there love Cellar holes man:headbang:

I have some more to find, thanks

I was trying to get a date, the one number is a big lump, but even with it I can't find anything?

Nice hunt! Looks like a promising cellar hole and those lamp assemblies are always awesome to find. You got a really nice one... that really looks like it could be put back into service. ha I have a half dozen or so complete ones and they are always really deep and bent up when they were thrown out.

First lamp I see found in that shape...That cellar hole looks like it was hunted before ???? Nice finds
