I am wondering if one of the 64's is a proof because it has a proof like finish to it & looking at the Red Book it appears the 64 proofs did not have an 'S' mintmark. It does not have any mintmark. Am I viewing this correct in the book? Is that what the mintage number in parathesis represents...proofs? If any of you more knowledgable folks have an answer to this I sure would appreciate it.

Nice finds LJ ! The only 86 proofs I've found are the commemorative version.

Regarding your '64, aside from the frosted head and dark mirrored background (which may have worn away on a '64 found in circulation), the coin itself should feel slightly thicker along the edges and be slightly concave.

The oldest proof I've found is a '71, so I've not actually held any proof 90%ers; but have to imagine the same characteristics apply.

The Red Book shows two types of '64 proofs, regular and "heavily accented hair"; whose two types make up the 3.95M made.
The heavily accented hair was apparently the first version they made, but Jackie Kennedy didn't care for the longer hair around the ear and the Mint honored her request and changed it.

I hope this helps and keep paving the way for us.
